Credit Card payments snowballing

I bought something a year ago and forgot to make payment my balance was $68 and then I had to make the late payment/fee at $140 but after 6 months I’m getting a statement of $140+ due on the same bill.

so I chor help from the cohesity and they were like ok we have waived your late fee and just pay the remaining $2 and you are done. 
so did that closed my credit card. 

but now again after 2 months I have a new balance of $140+ …

what kind of scam is that? I haven’t even bought a single product and I’m broke!
