Charged too much tax

I placed an order and noticed they charged me too much for tax. Order was $36 and they charged $4.64 for tax. The state tax is 5.6%. This does not seem right.

I had this happen to me recently. My order was for 74 and they charged 8.94, which is 12.08 percent. The sales tax in my area is 8.3%. This is very illegal and I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about it and that the Missouri lawsuit is the only one I’ve found. I contacted customer service and they refunded me the difference. Definitely check old orders and reach out if they did this to you. You can request it to go back to the card you used instead of the credit they offer.

@Nicsa8511, my apologies! At checkout it will say “Estimated Tax,” and the highest possible tax amount will be shown and used for the authorization amount. Once the order is shipped, the correct tax amount should be adjusted and charged. Apparently this is a thing everywhere.  Our state is 5.6% and they are consistently off by a percent or two in their favor.  Today they are charging me TWICE the actual tax owed.  WHAT??

I saw today that there is now a class action lawsuit against Sephora brought by the state of Missouri for the charge of illegal taxes. I would explore this if I were you! Now I'm left wondering if I was overcharged as well. Time to go through some receipts. Shame on you Sephora.
