Card and pin removed with sticker that covered them

I was given a Sephora gift card for Xmas. I went to my closest store which is located inside a Kohls.  The clerk rang me up and I handed her the gift card. These Sephora stores that are located inside Kohls cannot swipe gift cards, they have to manually type in the numbers.  The clerk peeled the sticker off that covered the card number and pin and a lot of the numbers came off with it! She called CS and they basically said they can't do anything.  The suggested I go to a stand alone store which would swipe my card. Well wouldn't they still need the pin number? So I'm out $100. Because this manufacturer puts removable numbers underneath adhesive? And Sephora can sit back and say "read the back of the card, when you purchased the card it was acceptance to hold us harmless. Well that doesn't sit well with me. A person worked very hard to earn that $100 to purchase this gift card for me. Shameful.

This happened to my 11 year old daughter. She was going to use her gift card online, and the sticker peeled off half the number and pin. I do think this is a big issue. I will be not be purchasing third-party Sephora gift cards. I think the public should know there is a quality control issue.

I had the same thing happen to me, however the numbers were still kind of faintly visible, and I could guess at them. It helped to know that Sephora gift card numbers always have 16 digits, and the pin has 8. I just kept trying until it worked. Realize this won't work for everyone, though, if the numbers have mostly or completely come off. Sephora should really step up and fix this, and ensure it doesn't keep happening in future.

i understand the feeling, im absolutely distraught as well. my boyfriends mother gifted me a card for christmas and i was going to buy some stuff with the money in it. the sticker peeled off the numbers and i’ve been trying to piece them back in place. 

 

i have the receipt from the store saying “electronic card activation” if this helps to get me the money back. i’m just genuinely bummed out about this since this is my first ever gift card. talk about a bad experience. 

 

j just lost $40 dollars. please help, anyone.

I just encountered this today, Nov 2024. I am so mad. My son purchased this in September for my birthday and when pulling off the sticker some of the card number along with the Pin number came off and now the card cannot be used. This is not acceptable and should not be happening. I believe I can still go into a stand alone store but that was not convenient for me so I am very frustred. I will tell my family to never buy a card like this again from Sephora.

This also happened to me. CS told me to go into a retail location. I went to the closest one, that isn't really close, and it would not work there either. I was then on the phone with someone from corporate for like 20 minutes in the store to no avail. The gift card was from my husband so I know money was on it. So basically we are just out $50.

I’m in the same exact situation. Sephora need a better explanation than just sorry nothing they can do
