Can't use a code and point rewards?

I just placed an order which was almost immediately cancelled - no idea why as I could see the charge come out of my bank account and then be returned a few minutes later. I called customer support to try to see what was going on and I was told that you can't use a code and get points rewards in the same purchase??? I have never had an issue with this before - I placed an order on Friday and it allowed me to use a code and redeem points for rewards. Has anyone else come across this? I am getting my order sans points rewards now, and I'm pretty disappointed. I don't know why they bother with a point system that is this useless!

@CocoLeen You should be able to add a reward from the Rewards Bazaar, but the Holiday Savings Event promo cannot be combined with BI Cash. I will send you a PM for more information.
