Can't use Sephora store credit online?

I returned a foundation and received store credit. I always buy my makeup online and only return it if it does not work well for me. This was the first time I ever got store credit instead of a refund and it came to my surprise that I could not use the store credit for online purchases?! I thought this was crazy!!! This is the only retail store I have EVER heard of that does not allow you to use store credit online. I NEVER shop in-store and if I shop online BELEIVE ME I am spending way more money then I would in-store...SEPHORA you need to update this policy. It is ridiculous.

Just as an FYI this wasn't rectified - thought this should be in the post. Sephora needs to change this policy ASAP, especially with COVID and social distance requirements.

I completely agree. This is ridiculous. I have over 150 dollars in store credit now and have no interest in shopping in store. This HAS to change.

This happened to me, too. Plus, I think you have to lecture your employees more because majority of them are super rude. They discriminate, too!

The products I want for my wedding, from RMS beauty, are only available online! I have 190 in store credit, but can't use it on what I actually want. Is there a way to transfer in-store credit to online credit at all?

Just got $110 in store credit and SHOCKER what I wanted was online only. This company is way behind on the times and just doesn't care about the complaints from customers as long as they are still getting paid. After i use my store credit i am boycotting this shady company. Ulta for the win <3. Ulta is a company that actually offers sales and coupons more than twice a year!

This is SO FRUSTRATING I returned something in the store and they gave me $80 store credit but they didn’t have the product I wanted to buy in the store - online only... so how can they issue store credit when you need to repurchase the item online since they don’t carry everything in the store??? Ulta is my go to I always have issues returning at Sephora and Ulta works with you and gives you credit to your account so you can use it online or in store that’s GREAT SERVICE after this I’m sticking to Ulta... so frustrating!

Same thing happened for me! I returned an item (it was skin brightened that was too harsh on my skin) and gladly accepted a Store Credit. I only found out now that I can only use in store. I was not able to use it online. I then went to the store to see if they can place the order for me since the product I want (Supergoop 18oz SPF) is only available online. They told me they are not able to do that. I can only buy products that the store carries.
This new policy is very inconvenient. While returning, no one told me that the Store Credit is only good for in store. I would not have accepted it. This is very disappointing. As a VIB, I will no longer shop at Sephora. Sephora is the only company that limits the use of their merchandise credits. I will now go to Nordstrom, Macy’s and Ulta where they have a much better loyalty program and customer service.

I’m disabled and I care for my father full time, he has cancer. I take him to his treatments and otherwise I’m unable to get out much. I do all of my Sephora shopping online, and when I have to return something I take it to the store or have a friend do it for me. I was also really disappointed to find out that I cannot use my store credit online. This is very inconvenient for me since it’s so difficult for me to get out. I hope that you all would consider changing your policy. I don’t understand what harm could be done by being able to use the store credit online. It would just be much more convenient for customers, especially those of us who have problems getting out.

Who cares if it never expires if you can't get what you want !!! I just dealt with the same issue as these women . I had to spend HOURS trying to find something worth spending my store credit on at the crappy Sephora stores that are 1.5 hours away from home. They have none of the brands I'm interested at the only locations within 100 miles of me. The stuff I returned, I'd bought online . They didn't bother to tell me I'd get store credit instead of my money back . I'm just about done with Sephora in general. If I can't try things on , and can't return them without having to settle for the picked over crap in the stores that are TOO FAR AWAY , why bother? Why don't you stock ALL BRANDS IN THE STORES ? Then it might make store credit worth something. Instead, you keep all the good stuff online only and expect us to take store credit if we return things . Sephora used to be the best .

Gaaah at least I'm not alone in this super frustrating situation! I've been sitting on what I thought was just a gift card (like you'd get from any normal store where there's just money on a card, regardless of whether it came from a refund, gift, etc.), spent forever picking out a product, went to pay for it, and realized I CAN'T because it's a store credit card. As many of you have said, this product is not carried in stores. Also as many of you have said, this is reason enough for me to walk away from Sephora and shop elsewhere in the future. There are PLENTY of other stores with better service where I can shop. Bad form, Sephora.
