Bad mail in return and customer service experience

Hi! I had a bad experience returning an item that caused me an allergic reaction. When trying to rectify the situation with customer service they were very unhelpful and just replying off a script. 

I returned an item back by mail but received an email that it was rejected because it was “more than gently used”. I’m a bit confused — the item I returned was only lightly tested when shipped back and within the return window. The bottle wasn’t even full when I received it! I used it only twice and I had a bad reaction to the product and decided to return it. 

 

I’d appreciate some options of what happens now. If the return can’t be processed for a return can I either expect my product back or a store credit?

Does Sephora just keep your money and your product!? What kind of process is this 

 

I’ve tried contacting customer service and there was either no reply or very unhelpful. Im upset and confused about this whole situation
