$150 Gift Card Scam

Got a gift card in May worth $150 for my college graduation and decided to use it only about a month ago, come to find out that no money is on it and someone used it 2 days after activation. I have spent many hours on the phone over the past month with Sephora attempting to figure out who used it, and even though Sephora customer service admits that I was not the one to use it, they insist over and over again that the gift card is “treated like cash” therefore nothing can be done. Even though they know who the scammer was they will do nothing about it and refuse to refund me any of the money.

I am obviously very frustrated with the situation and just want the money back or even store credit yet they will not budge despite my many attempts to escalate and talk to a manager or someone who might help me.

I feel I am running out of options and may have to seek legal action, was wondering if anyone knew of anything else I could do.
