$100 Sephora Gift Card Used Before Receiving

My mom got me a $100 Sephora gift card for Christmas. I was so excited to use it and and deliberated for two days on exactly what I wanted to get.  When I went to checkout, it said that the card balance was $0! My mom called Sephora and they said that is was used on the 23rd for two payments. One for $90 and another for $10. This happened before I was even gifted the card and while it was wrapped under the tree. When my mom called Sephora they said there was nothing they could do since the money was already spent....

This was super disappointing since me and my mom have been shopping at Sephora for forever. Seriously considering no longer purchasing from here.

I purchased a $100 gift card for a friend on 12/1/24 at a dedicated Sephora store. My friend tried to use the gift card this April during a Sephora sale, being the frugal person that she is.  It showed $0.56 left on the gift card.  Following up with Sephora, the gift card had been used on 12/8/24 for multiple small charges.  Is this a computer scam or inside job?  

I asked if these purchases could be traced (name, address etc.) and they claim no.  I doubt that this information is NOT available.  

I would understand if this was a rare or isolated issue, and if Sephora was committed to resolving these issues on a corporate process and individual level, but seeing other MULTIPLE posts about these issues will lead me to:

TELL others about the Sephora gift card lack of security

TELL others about the lack of support in resolving issues

STOP any further Sephora purchases on-line or in person and encourage others to do the same

This happened to me today. I got a Sephora GC from my grandma for Christmas. I saved it until I needed to restock something. She bought in December and the money was used before she even gave it to me on 12/16. I finally tried to use today, scratched off the back to find no PIN number…called CS and it’s 0 dollars... Sephora can’t do anything about it since she got it at Kroger. It’s not their fault, but it really sucks when your GRANDMA’S money is stolen.
