$0 On an unused gift card

I am seeking assistance regarding a puzzling situation I recently encountered with a gift card I received for my birthday. It has come to my attention that the $25 gift card I received appears to have a zero value when I attempted to use it for a purchase. I find this perplexing as the gift card has never been used before. I am reaching out to the  in the hopes that someone can shed some light on this matter.
