Thick, Wavy Hair

I have thick long hair that is curly on the under layers and straight on the top layer. I need a product that can enhance my curls/ waves on the top layer to flow with the rest of my hair. Something i can put in after i wash it and something to use to enhance the waves on the days i dont wash it. Usually i use a waver on the top later once my hair is fully air dried but it would be nice to not use the heat on it all the time.

Re: Thick, Wavy Hair

Hello,

My hair is the same! I have found that the fix is less about the products that I use (though those help) and more about what I do with my hair once the products are in. I usually mix a creme and an oil and put it in my washed hair while is still really wet (not dripping but close to it) and then I immediately put my hair into a bun on top of my head (or two buns that I cinch together with another band if I want smaller curls). If you can let it mostly dry like that (takes me a day or day and a half for my thick hair), when you let it down its perfect. This took me maybe two decades of trial and error to figure out 🙂 It works for me and perhaps will work for you too. I use a t-shirt or plopping towel to wrap my hair (never a towel) and I only wash my hair twice a week or so (sometimes I wet it and condition it more often but only wash a few times). Once dry, you can pull hair back up into a loose bun to sleep on it and take it back down and freshen with a little oil or shine spray. I use ribbon ties to put hair up.

As far as products go, I use lots of different ones and they make little difference in the outcome when I use that process. I do like Living Proof oil better than Bumble oil (or most others. I like Evo liquid rollers for a creme (though I don't think Sephora carries this yet) to mix with oil. I like IGK coconut oil creme for if I need to air-dry or if I don't have as much time to let my hair dry in a bun. I also like IGK dry oil spray to freshen. And finally, sometimes I just leave my conditioner in while its wet (avoiding the roots and my bangs) and that does a pretty nice job too (especially when traveling and I don't want to bring a ton of products).

I hope this helps!
