Limp curls

  • I have type 3c/4A curls and coils, very prone to frizz. My biggest issue is a few strands of stick-straight hair mostly in front.  I have done no heat styling or coloring in over 4 months and just got a trim 3 weeks ago. Any recommendations on getting curl back into these lifeless strands?  Wondering if I need a deeper cut as opposed to just a trim?

Re: Limp curls

@indygrl55 I have the same curl pattern (mostly 4a with a few 3c patches) and a similar issue: random strands of hair forget how to coil at all. When that happens to me, Olaplex fixes it. Usually I use Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector Pre-Shampoo Hair Repair Treatment 3.3 oz/ 100 mL  on wet hair, let it sit for 10-30 minutes, and then use the shampoo of my choice to wash it outโ€”and of course, follow with the conditioner of my choice. Sometimes I use the Olaplex shampoo and conditioner, but usually I use different products. I also occasionally like to use Olaplex No. 6 Bond Smoother Reparative Styling Creme instead of my usual leave-in.

I don't use Olaplex each time I wash my hair, and I wash just once every 1-2 weeks. I never run a brush or comb through my hair; I just gently use my fingers. My current favorite shampoo and conditioner are from the Redken All Soft Mega line.

RE: Limp curls

Using deep conditioners should take the frizz away after time but also make sure that when you are getting out of the shower you arenโ€™t using a towel around your hair because that could be causing the frizz

Re: Limp curls

Use a leave in conditioner while brushing with a Denman brush. It defines your curls. Watch reviews of it on YouTube, if you want to see it in action. Iโ€™ve been using one for almost 5 years now.

Hi @indygrl55!

I would look for some shampoos, conditioners, hair masks and treatments that have proteins in them.  Coiled hair is the most fragile type of hair so proteins are super helpful.

I currently use Redken Extreme Shampoo and Conditioner (official Redken Amazon store).  I have super bleached and damaged silver hair and they've helped make my hair wavy.  Still looking for protein hair masks and treatments.

Ok, thanks!
