Too Faced Born This Way Powder

Hello! I went to a make-up retailer (not Sephora) and was recommended the Too Faced Born This Way 'translucent' powder. The store clerk got the powder for me and gave me the powder in colour translucent medium, for reference I got the concealer in shade light beige which is a fair/ medium shade. The powder goes on reddish which obviously isn't great but after loads of buffing it ends up looking more translucent. I'm not sure if I was given the wrong shade by accident, or if my technique is all wrong. Does anyone else who is around the same shade use the translucent medium powder? Thanks!!
