Sephora Color IQ- How accurate is it?

I recently purchased Kat Von D’s lock it foundation and concealer even though they are not an IQ match. Let me know if you rely on this beauty tool?

This is actually a very good match for you. Maybe a little too yellow compared to your neck, but not that noticeable. Color IQ is iffy at best. For darker skin tones, sometimes it just goes wrong and wonky

Kat Von D And Too Faced foundations vary some from the color iq results. It is in fact a starting point- but I always select a different shade in those 2 brands. It’s what you love and prefer- and your foundation looks great, so good choice!

It's really not that accurate, and even though it takes a picture of your skin without any light, it always seems to be a bit off. I've gotten the colour IQ done about 5-7 times and have always gotten a different colour every time. I've noticed that for every suggestion, I can always go a shade or two down within the same undertone family if the brand allows it. And to make it even worse, when they do test the suggested foundation out on your skin in store, it looks like lit matches perfectly, then you walk outside. I always get tested there, then go home and order the foundation a shade or two down online. It's great at giving you suggestions for foundations within your undertone, but not for foundations in your actual colour. It might be something to do with how they file the foundations or maybe just the camera itself - either way, it's not accurate.
