How to avoid your foundation to look cakey?

I’m good at makeup but when it comes to foundation it looks good yet I feel sometimes it looks cakey on certain days. I have good & sensitive skin. Plus my skin dries quickly. I currently use Fenty Beauty Foundation. Please help or give some tips

Re: How to avoid your foundation to look cakey?

If you're sensitive and dry, I'd honestly recommend a different foundation. I have combo skin, and the Fenty completely broke apart on my dry patches. An absolute mess! But if you're dedicated to making it work, then I'd recommend either a more hydrating moisturizer or a primer. I like the FIRST AID BEAUTY - Hello FAB Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer.

When I first started using Fenty I applied it with a brush and felt the same way. It would always end up cakey, but once I switched to a beauty blender it has been a dream! Also, you don't need a lot of product to get decent coverage. I typically use only 1/2-1 pump of foundation for my whole face.

I too had the same issue. I had to use a slightly more thicker moisturizer something with hyaluronic acid in it and let it completely set in and use a primer that would help with oil control but not make my slim super matte- kinda avoiding the sticky feeling ones. Used the Smashbox once that is in white tube and comes out like white lotion or the Kat Von D Lock it in areas I needed the most hell and applies with a damp beauty blender that was less damp than normal....if that makes sense. I found a brush it tended to cake up no make how I applied or what primer I used. A few times with a more moisturizering primer I used a duo fiber brush to not pick up as much product and kinda did like a “rough blend” and went over tooth damp beauty blender. Had to work quickly though so I recommend going in seconds. And setting just where I needed and using a setting spray to melt it all together and it looked really good. I only use this when I have ample time to get dress and just really want to play with makeup.

Your tip worked. Thank you so much. Sorry for the late response.

Hi @LadyIsreal,

On the days that I feel drier I tend to use a more moisturizing primer, I found that the FIRST AID BEAUTY - Hello FAB Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer is great to add additional moisture to the skin and also a settle glow. Another primer that I like to use is TOO FACED - Hangover Replenishing Face Primer which also helps to add that needed moisture. These two primers do a great job at moisturizing to the drier areas. I hope this helps 😉

Warmest regards,

Helen
