Full EXTREME Coverage Foundation that DOES NOT Magnify Pores?

  • Products I'm "Trying" This MonthProducts I'm "Trying" This MonthI have an extreme foundation addiction; It continues to grow each day. I've tried SO many, and so far Huda has been my go-to, but it's impossible to find in stores. I tried one on Amazon, and it was a knock-off (you have NO clue how annoyed I was) I'll attach the current foundations (I try out a handful for a week or two, and then end up giving them to my roommate.) I have an issue with my pores, so I try and stay away from powder/ liquid to powder foundations if I can. Shockingly Huda is the only "liquid to powder" type foundation that doesn't leave me looking like there's a magnifying glass exposing ALL my pores. It's only on my cheeks as well, so maybe you might have a suggestion for that too?

My solution turned out to be a lighter-weight foundation (who woulda thought?). I tried all those in the photo and then some (30 in all) before I hit on Bobbi Brown Skin.  To get the coverage I want, I use a dampened beauty blender and pat it on (vs makeup brush which just swirls it around and makes my pores more visible), let it dry down and then use a second or third layer if I have to - usually with a primer, one - two layers works, a light dusting of setting powder and a light spritz of UD All Nighter.

Just wondering what translucent powder do you use? I love the Lancôme teint idole foundation and I use the hourglass mineral veil primer and once I set it it’s smooth. For me, the setting powder is what helps.

Try the mac time check lotion!! It's the best pore filling primer I've used

I believe they gave me a sample of that when I went in. I have to double check! Thank you!

@NateIsGreat Tatcha Silk Canvas Face Primer...I know you are a Tatcha fan. This was just released, it's sold out but you might be able to buy from Tatcha direct. It melts onto your skin and fills in your pores.

I do love me some Tatcha!! I was looking at that earlier actually! I may have to try it out. None of their other products have ever let me down!

@NateIsGreat Okay I LOVE it. Mine was delayed in shipping...

@NateIsGreat Okay I LOVE it. Mine was delayed in shipping so i just tried it today. It is quite good. Pat it in after your moisturizer sets, foundation then finish with powder. Golden!

Re: Full EXTREME Coverage Foundation that DOES NOT Magnify Pores?

@NateIsGreat Cute pic! I suggest relying on a primer rather than foundation for pore-filling. That way they’re filled no matter which foundation you choose! Dr. Brandt’s Pores No More primer and Make Up Forever’s Smoothing primer are a couple of good options. But, an even better option is to get to the root of the problem! Lactic or salicylic acid cleansers daily, retinol at night time. You can also achieve permanent pore reduction with various laser treatment options with your cosmetic dermatologist.

I'm right there with you Nate. I'm currently trying to find the magical moisturizer/primer/foundation combination that work together and won't accentuate my fine lines and pores. I also have dryness and redness so there is a lot I'm needing them to do. Was using Clinique Even Better for years. Now I'm trying out IT Your Skin But Better CC cream. No real luck with either by themselves. I'm waiting to receive the IT Bye Bye Pores primer to see if that will make a difference. Surprisingly the Clinique and Smashbox primers have not helped. I have found that foundation application is important. Using a brush doesn't work, but using a sponge or beauty blender to pat/swipe it on my face does. Same for powders, have to use a sponge. The brushes just tend to leave the makeup sitting around my pores. I'll report back if I find that magic combo. I've been scouring these threads for suggestions. Good Luck!

Nate, your skin does look amazing! The only thing I’ve found to work on my nose large pores is the Blur Timeless Primer from Tarte. You press the product in, and it smoothies and lasts all day, like noth8ng else! Good luck! @NateIsGreat

I have the same problem, except I have a larger area of "concern" ( noise, chin, cheeks, forehead). I've tried several different primers, but they irritate my skin after several applications. I'm looking for something to cover my attention loving pores, and not feel like my face is weighing me down. I currently use makeup forever matte powder full coverage on top of some fancy concealer i can't remember the name of. Im open to any advice. I have one son on the spectrum and a 2 year old on something, lol, jkjk. I just can't find the time to explore my options. And @NateIsGreat, your skin looks amazing 🙂

Re: Full EXTREME Coverage Foundation that DOES NOT Magnify Pores?

Did you try anything by Dermablend yet? What about foundation primers and pore-refining cleansers?

I'm addicted to trying new foundations too. I keep all mine because some work better for me than others from day to day, some have spf some don't, some look great but only for a few hours but occasionally that's all I need, and so on!

I like Dermablend cover creme in winter, and I choose it on days I have more than usual redness. I have the 2 lightest colors and use the yellower one on the reddened areas. I like the trick of warming it between my finger and thumb til it becomes more fluid. It doesn't seem to play well with any of my primers. It covers everything and it doesn't accentuate my pores. It is tricky to apply under the eyes and I have to use tiny amounts at a time. I can't bear to wear it for more than say 5 hours because it starts to feel heavy
