Foundation brush question

Do you ladies think it is better to use a soft or firm brush to apply liquid foundation? I currently use an IT for Ulta brush and I do love it, however I guess it's in between soft and firm. I use Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation. "buffing" foundation doesn't work for me, so I do the "tap and swipe" kind of deal... if that makes sense. So with that said, what kinda brush do you think is best and can you suggest some brushes and brands for me to look into? It would be much appreciated! 😁

Foundation brush question

I had one (flat brush), they gave me one when I went rouge this year, small fluffy heavenly thing, foundation goes on and blends like a dream, it tucks in your purse on the go!!! It went missing today and I had to use old trusty, YUCK, I am on my way to get a new one now!!! Makeup emergency

Re: Foundation brush question

@InkedGirl,

I noticed that it all depends on the formula! The fluffy brushes do not work as well with my matte full coverage foundations as I find that it starts to look heavy and I have to work quickly since it dries down fast. I like a flat brush for a matte foundation and I apply it by brushing it downwards.

One of my favorite brushes is the SEPHORA COLLECTION PRO Flawless Airbrush #56 which is so easy to work with as it bristles are denser.

Re: Foundation brush question

Hi, @melissabt!  I have this brush.  I bought the large and small when I was looking for a new powder brush.  I wasn't happy with either brush for my setting powder, but I use the full size to brush on my Meteorites and the small one to brush on powder highlighters.  I wouldn't use either brush as a liquid foundation brush because the bristles are too flexible for the "swipe and pounce" method.

@Titian06,

I am glad that you have used the brush too! I am still looking for a powder brush that I love:) I am currently using the Huda powder which I am very happy with!

Re: Foundation brush question

Hi @InkedGirl It depends on your preference. A firmer brush is designed to give more coverage. I like the feeling of a less firm brush on my skin, which I can blend and tap to build up as necessary. I've been using the SEPHORA COLLECTION - PRO Foundation #47

Re: Foundation brush question

@InkedGirl - I use the Cover FX Custom Blending Brush.  The bristles are packed so tightly, they don't move.  It's perfect for the "swipe and pounce" method, which is also how I prefer to apply my liquid foundation.  It doesn't suck up the foundation like some brushes can, so you won't waste you makeup.  The bristles are synthetic.  As tightly packed as they are, it doesn't take forever to dry when you wash it.  I've been using the brush for a couple of years and am extremely happy with it.

Re: Foundation brush question

Thank you, that sounds like something I'm looking for. I'll definitely check it out!

Re: Foundation brush question

@InkedGirl For foundation brush I love using ARTIS - Elite Mirror Oval 10 Brush

I like this brush because the brush doesn’t absorb all the foundation and you use less of what you normally would use and it blends in very easily.
