Eye liner

I am brown skinned. Need suggestions on which eyeliner color will suit me the best? I always wear an intense black. Are there other colors that will suit me and something I can wear to work everyday?

I'm brown skinned myself and I do struggle finding colors that work well without standing out too much. This is going to be a fun suggestion, but what I can think of is a dark purple, blue, and green are ones that do come to mind for colors that you can wear to work. I do love Sephora's SEPHORA COLLECTION - Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner - 21 Matte Deep Plum due to how it's a pop of color yet office friendly. They have more to choose from and I think it's an easy way to experiment without spending too much.

Hi @shruh,

I recommend using a dark brown eyeliner. It gives a natural look and defines your eyes without it being super obvious that you have eyeliner on. I really love the MARC JACOBS BEAUTY - Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner - (Earth)quake 41.

@shruh  I love black liner any time of day, in any setting; there are no rules about when one should or shouldn’t wear it. 🙂 But I also love many other liner colors. Without knowing the kind(s) of eye and overall makeup looks you typically create for work (some folks go minimal, others go neutral warm or cool tones, some add punches of color to neutral or minimal looks, and some go for very colorful looks), I swatched some of my favorite pencil eyeliners to cover a wide range of “work appropriate” looks.

7. Glossier Play Colorslide in Stable Relationship - often on my lower lashline, sometimes in my waterline; it’s a subtle mossy green color that’s unexpected yet unobtrusive

Of all of those, the longest lasting formulas are Bobbi Brown and MUFE—and of those 2, Bobbi Brown’s the best. The shadow sticks in particular are usually budge-proof. The Glossier pencils last a long time on my lower lash line and inner corner, but I sometimes add a bit of translucent setting powder as insurance when lining my lids or drawing a wing with them. Marc Jacobs and NARS require setting powder to stay put all day on me. Urban Decay requires a touch-up during the day; none of the UD eyeliners stay put on me. 

I left out all my Inglot AMC Gel Eyeliners. Those are gel pots and they’re fantastic! Bobbi Brown also makes a great gel pot eyeliner, and Tarte’s clay pot liners are generally good performers. I also didn’t include any liquid liners, though some brands do make them in colors besides black and brown.

I find that brown eyeliners are much more natural. Black eyeliner would be better suited for night-time looks. If you prefer to have your already beautiful eyes look bigger, nude colored eyeliners would be great in the waterline. My personal preference are pencils and Im a huge fan of the Marc Jacob eyeliners. They are extremely creamy and have a long staying power but they’re also a bit on the pricy side.
