Does anyone order their MAC items from an SA?  I don't know the protocol and have never used one so I'm curious.

I have done so-I have two SAs at Nordstrom who are really helpful. I can tell them what I want and they will either call me when it's released or hold it (I don't think they are technically supposed to do pre orders or holds) It helps if you are a Nordstrom card holder too.

Oh interesting.  Thanks for the info AnneMCC! I've seen people say that they call their SA but I thought more people would talk about it!

I think at Nordstrom they do earn based on their sales so the SAs always seem to be helpful and want to 'enable' you haha!

Can anyone tell me if MAC new releases come out at reasonable hours or if it's a midnight-type of situation?

I've never purchased any MAC limited edition items or new collection items, and REALLY want pretty much everything in the Macnificent Me collection!

I'd like to be able to saunter onto the interwebz around 9 or 10 am on 10/1 and pick these babies up but don't want to miss out!

All the ones I've seen online have been between 8:30 am (to be safe) and 12pm EST. Usually around 9-9:30am EST. 🙂  I usually go in store unless it's online exclusive... and having a list ready is a good idea like Tara mentioned below 🙂

 Welcome to the wonderful world of online MAC stalking!

Normally MAC releases their collection online about a week before it is released in the stores. You'll need to find out the release date and start stalking the MAC website the night before the collection is supposed to be released. I recommend making a list of what you want and having your shipping/billing/payment information at hand (especially if you think that the collection will be especially popular-other people are stalking along with you, especially ebay sellers who seem to wind up with multiple numbers of the really popular items). MAC has been known to release items early in the morning (4am EST), mid morning (9am EST) or in the case of the Rocky Hour Picture Show, in the afternoon (3pm EST). Sometimes MAC will release their collections before the stated release date; they will also delay releasing collections.

If you don't want to stay up all night like some people I know, start checking the MAC website around 6 am. Remember also that if the collection isn't a MAC exclusive collection, it will be available at Nordstroms, Macy's, Bloomingdale's, etc so you will be able to pick up items that you may have missed.

Thanks for this! I'm bad at online grabs but fortunately my local two Dillard's MAC counters rarely sell out and often have things left that others find hard to get. 😄 Those strobe creams! I'm excited!

It's been around 9am EST lately.  I'm not too sure about prior to this year, but it seems like the release times were random: morning, afternoon, evening, overnight.

I wouldn't rely on the MAC email/text notifications because sometimes those get sent hours after the release.

The lip gloss is gorgeous! I was about to buy the lipstick when I realized MAC's description is "bright orange".. that kind of scared me away a bit. But the swatches don't look too orange! Still deciding if I should go for it or not. It's definitely more of a summery red in my opinion, I don't know why they waited until September to release it.

So is Guo Pei supposed to release Oct. 1? Is there any new info on that collection?

According to trendmood, the collection will only be available at MAC online, and, in North America, it will only be available at 4 retailers - 2 MACs in the US (South Coast Plaza, CA and 5th Ave. NY) and 2 MACs in Canada (Yorkdale, Toronto and Robson, Vancouver).  The California location is currently taking preorders.  You have to pay in total when you place your order, and they will ship it to you when it is released.  Their number is 741-751-2142.

Edit - I realized one sentence was a confusing read after posting.  To clarify, the collection will be available at MAC online.  Additionally, in North America, it will be available at the 4 locations listed.
