The highly anticipated LA MER brand is finally at Sephora. Share your thoughts about the brand and what products you feel are worth the price and what items you would pass on.  Have you found any possible dupes?

Re: LA MER Thread

Can anyone on BT educate me on why I need (or don’t need) La Mer’s “The Powder?” 😩😩 TMO, or talk me in!

Re: LA MER Thread

Any La Mer specialists in the house? I wondered if anyone could compare the Soft Fluid foundation with Chantecaille's Future Skin Foundation.

I tried the Soft Fluid foundation - a sample foil was enough for a week!!!- and it worked really well with my skin. My first reaction was horror to the price, but my skin is super complicated and most foundations don't work well on me (I was already planning on starting a paper-bag-over-the-head fashion trend). Also, unless that was a magical foil, a little goes a loooong way. So I'd say it's worth the price tag for me. But I came across reviews of the Chantecaille's Future Skin and it seems to be very similar performance wise. I may be wrong, but as it's difficult to come by a chantecaille sample, I hoped someone could comment on it.

Re: LA MER Thread

Does anyone have the soft fluid foundation? I have a bottle and the odor is so strong that I can still smell it even an hour or two after I apply it (which has never happened to me before with any other scented foundation - I can't smell it immediately after I apply it).  I haven't tried any other la mer products before so I don't know if the scent is normal (it doesn't smell like other products have when they've gone bad, but the scent is so strong and not the normal pleasant scent you'd find in a scented foundation) or if my bottle has gone bad.  The foundation also isn't anywhere near as nice as I imagined - my skin is dry and it goes on pretty cakey and emphasizes dry patches, even though my skin is exfoliated, moisturized, and smooth beforehand.  I think it's also breaking me out...I'm not sure if the foundation just doesn't work for me or if I got a bad bottle! Any ideas?

Re: LA MER Thread

I got the teeny tiny sample of the creme that was a promo last week.  I was placing an order anyway so I thought why not.

It's a beautiful creme, very rich and a little does go a long way.  I like that it doesn't have a terribly heavy fragrance and my skin seems to like it.  But, I'm not sure if I can justify spending that much.

Re: LA MER Thread

will sephora be getting the soft fluid foundation?

RE: Re: LA MER Thread

@shef90. They have the foundation

Re: LA MER Thread

Are there any ingredients in here that actually justify the price of these products?  A lot of skincare products just seem like snake oil...

Re: LA MER Thread

Apparently these are the ingredients in the creme:

  • Seaweed (Algae) Extract
  • Mineral oil Glycerin
  • Isohexadecane
  • Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Extract
  • Microcrystalline Wax
  • Lanolin Alcohol
  • Sesame Seed Oil
  • Eucalyptus Oil
  • Magnesium Sulfate
  • Sesame Seed
  • Medicago sativa (alfalfa) seed powder
  • Helianthus Annuus (sunflower) Seedcake
  • Prunus amygdulus dulcis (sweet almond) seed meal
  • Sodium Gluconate
  • Potassium Gluconate
  • Copper Gluconate
  • Calcium Gluconate
  • Magnesium Gluconate
  • Zinc Gluconate
  • Paraffin
  • Tocopheryl succinate
  • Niacin
  • Beta-carotene
  • Decyl oleate
  • Aluminium distearate
  • Octyldodecanol
  • Citric acid
  • Cyanocobalamin
  • Magnesium stearate
  • Panthenol
  • Limonene
  • Geraniol
  • Linalool
  • Hydroxycitronellal
  • Citronellol
  • Benzyl salicylate
  • Citral
  • Methylchloroisothiazolinone
  • Methylisothiazolinone
  • Alcohol Denat.
  • Fragrance (Parfum)

The seaweed and minerals are 'fermented' for 3 months to make the 'Miracle Broth'.

Re: LA MER Thread

I would love if a third party (non-biased source) would do some kind of actual scientific study of these various skin care ingredients to see if they actually do anything.  Does anyone know if this exists?

Re: LA MER Thread

@Madeline7  That would be great but I think an independent lab or group would need to do it but I am sure someone would try and influence them or sway the results.

Re: LA MER Thread

@Madeline7that would be a great study.  I would be curious too.

Re: LA MER Thread

so. much. mineral. oil.

Re: LA MER Thread

I personally have never tried the brand. I will not be able to afford anything from the brand either but that doesn't bother me because I love the products that I use currently.

I know a lot of people really love the iconic creme and say it is worth the money as you use so little so it lasts a long time, so if I was going to try one product that would be it.
