darkening highlights

.

Re: darkening highlights

In my experience, purple shampoo does not darken highlights. It just takes the yellow tone away, which will make them look cooler-toned/paler. I use purple shampoo on my blonde hair to make it look like a light/pale blonde (as opposed to a yellow colour). It doesn't darken my hair at all, it actually makes it look lighter. I don't think you can darken them with anything other than depositing a darker colour on them. Any salon with experienced professionals should be able to do this for you. 🙂

Re: darkening highlights

Asche is spot on with the mention that purple (and even "silver") shampoos are not going to serve towards darken highlights. The purple or blue pigments in their formulas work to counteract the yellow or orange brassy tones found in copper or blonde shades and thus make them more ashen and cool toned.

The above image illustrates the before and after effects of utilizing a purple shampoo, with the image on the left appear more yellow and warm-tone while the hair on the right is more neutral.

To er123, I would highly recommend visiting your local salon or licensed hair care professional to help with a color correction service if you're wishing to darken up the shade of your highlights. Since highlights are so particular in their size and location along the hair, trying to darken just those areas on your own may be very cumbersome and tricky, so I would advise leaving it to the hands of a professional.

Re: darkening highlights

I'm not saying you shouldn't have made a thread, because of the name of this thread I am pointing you to:

http://community.sephora.com/t5/Products/The-Question-Thread-Because-not-all-questions-need-their-ow...

I don't mean anything by that, it is totally fine for you to make a thread about this, but I think you will have better luck posting your question in that thread I linked

Right now the forum is slower than usual because of the site redesign breaking everything

edit: I mean, there is not as much posting as usual because of frustration with the site's usability, probably fewer people reading the forums this past week

Sorry it is taking longer than usual! We have to be extra patient with the forum and site right now

I would help but I just don't know, I think purple shampoo is worth a shot, plus a lot of places have good return policies so you could take it back if it didn't work
