Wavy Hair Help

Hey all!

In the last few months I have given up on straightening and have been trying to embrace my waves. I cannot seem to find products that work for me (and I have tried many) and would love recommendations/tips! My hair is very poofy, coarse, wavy, and frizzy. It is also very prone to dryness. I would love to find a way to calm my hair, perhaps get it a bit flatter/less volume, and enhance and even out some looser waves. Where do I start?

Re: Wavy Hair Help

Hi @twickett,

I have wavy hair that is prone to dryness and frizz. So I make sure my routine includes moisturizing products to keep my curls smooth and soft. I highly recommend the Ouai Rose and Hair Body Oil. I apply it on damp hair to keep my curls from getting frizzy. It also has a nice rose scent.

Stay Gorgeous,

Penelope

Re: Wavy Hair Help

Hi, we love that you're embracing your waves! For frizzy, curly hair we recommend our Discipline collection - customers absolutely love this line:

Kérastase Discipline Sulfate-Free Smoothing Shampoo for Frizzy Hair 8.5 oz/ 250 mL

Kérastase Discipline Smoothing Conditioner for Frizzy Hair 6.8 oz/ 200 mL

Kérastase Discipline Anti-Frizz Smoothing Spray 5.1 oz/ 150 mL

Let us know how you like them! xx

Re: Wavy Hair Help

@twickett you definitely need to talk to @ShortErica She started and participates in a great thread for this, though I can't remember the exact title.

Re: Wavy Hair Help

Thanks for the tag @sprocketta. @twickett the thread is called "Ride the WAVE with me" and has lots of different tips. I'm still figuring it out. @Loretta55 always has insights about different products too.

Re: Wavy Hair Help

Appreciate it!

Re: Wavy Hair Help

I will be replying soon @twickett . Your hair type sounds like mine too!

Re: Wavy Hair Help

There is a learning curve dealing with wavy thick hair @twickett. First I would recommend a consultation with a Devacurl stylist. Go to their website to find a stylist local to you. Wash your hair a couple of days prior and let it dry naturally. The stylist will be cutting your hair dry according to your curl/wave pattern. Once the stylist is done cutting your hair your hair will be washed and conditioned. In my case my stylist recommended that I should not wash conditioner out of my hair. Dry your hair with either a microfiber towel or a plain white paper towel. I know the Devacurl method recommends applying styling products into sopping wet hair but you have so much hair you could use all the help with drying your hair quicker. I apply 3 separate styling products to achieve my look.

The most important tip that I can offer is to try to not touch your hair because that is what causes frizz. I am able to cut an hour off my dry time by wearing an Aquis Lisse Luxe Microfiber Turban.

Re: Wavy Hair Help

I’ve been hearing a lot about the microfiber turbans, I’ll definitely look into purchasing one! I live in a very small town and rural area so finding a stylist might be hard-I will look into it, though (fingers crossed)! Thank you for all the helpful suggestions 🙂

Re: Wavy Hair Help

Anything that cuts down on dry time is a win win for me @twickett ! If I let my hair air dry on its own it could take up to 10 hours for it to dry completely. Good luck finding a Devacurl stylist! I am lucky that I live outside NYC so I have many choices. I even noticed that an Ulta about half an hour from me has a stylist on staff that can perform a Devacut. I am very happy with my stylist who answers many of my questions.

Re: Wavy Hair Help

Great, thank you so much!

RE: Wavy Hair Help

Check out the Devacurl line. They have products just for a specific curl type so you would need “wavy”. Also Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil line is fantastic for really dry hair.

Re: RE: Wavy Hair Help

Thank you! I have tried devacurl and liked it pretty well, I’ll look into the oil!
