WILL MY HAIR GET BURNED????!!!!

I use a straightening iron every morning. I always knew that it isn't the best thing for my hair, but I just read an article saying that ironing hair more than twice a week will literally burn it!!! Is that true?

RE: WILL MY HAIR GET BURNED????!!!!

Hi, in my opinion, daily flatiron damage prevention definitely starts with the iron. Keep the heat low, take small sections, and only one smooth pass of the iron per section. Also, I don’t know your method, but lots of people expect the iron to do all the work. It’s really best used as a finishing tool. It shouldn’t be doing the actual straightening. It should be used to take the puff out of your blowout. If this describes your usage, I doubt you’ll burn your hair off.

Thanks...That really doesn't describe my routine.

@csuperstar I flat iron my hair 1-2x a week, and my hair certainly hasn't burned off.  That said, I personally think flat ironing every day might be a lot for one's hair.  I use dry shampoo in between washes.

Hi @csuperstar,

Any heat isn't great for your hair, however, you can use a thermal protectant to help protect and minimize any damage to your hair. I recommend the Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat Protectant Leave In Conditioner Primer 8.5 oz/ 25...I have found this works great! I hope this helps!

Best,

Rebecca

Re: WILL MY HAIR GET BURNED????!!!!

@csuperstar  Are you using a thermal protector prior to ironing? If you aren’t, you are not doing yourself any favours. I don’t touch heat to my hair without thermal protection. For my iron I use AMIKA - The Shield Anti-Humidity Spray.

For my blow dryer I use OLAPLEX - No. 6 Bond Smoother Reparative Styling Creme
