Re: Split End and Damaged hair.

If your hair is already split there is t much tondo besides get the ends trimmed.  It doesn’t have to be a lot but just enough so the splits don’t continue up the hair shaft.

After a trim using hair oils regularly on the ends helps to prevent split ends so you can go longer between cuts.  The ends are where hair is the driest and more likely to split- moreso the longer your hair is.

If your hair is particularily dry it helps to coat it in coconut oil for ten minutes before shampoo and conditioning.  This really helps with my overprocessed hair.  @SanjiaR

Re: Split End and Damaged hair.

I had the same issue, and you don't have to cut it if your split ends are not critical. What I did is I change my entire hair routine for hydrating products and protein mask I alternate these two - one week I'll use only hydrating products and mask and the next protein treatments and a restore type of shampoo-.

I do not use conditioner always a hair mask. I also limited the amount of direct heat my hair was getting, I still blow dry but with medium heat and If I have a difficult hair day I'll use heat protection and flat iron just the minimum amount. and I always use these two together maybe once or twice a daily (I literally carry the small versions it on my purse). First the mending fusion and after the oil treatment.

I workout a lot and even if I have dry and coarse hair I still wash it every two days because salt breaks the hair follicle very easy, I just try to always stick to a hydrating hair routine so my hair won't snap. This recommended by my dermatologist, and it truly works. If you can't afford the products just try to remember that your hair needs: Hydration, Protein and finishing products. You can find dupes of the shampoo's and hair mask probably at the drugstore but the finishing products are an investment worth making.

Re: Split End and Damaged hair.

Hi @SanjiaR, I agree with all of these suggestions. I suggest cutting off the damage as well and making sure that you go to a professional stylist that will take care of your hair and that will show you what to do with your hair at home. I hope that these suggestions help.

Re: Split End and Damaged hair.

My advice is to get a good haircut, cut off as much as youre comfortable with, also see if your stylist can cut it in a way that is as low maintenance as possible.

I would also start taking biotin and flaxseed oil supplements and eating a rich and healthy diet. 'You are what you eat' is something to keep in mind. Honestly if your diet is lacking in calories and nutrition the chances are your hair will look like cr@p!

Nioxin 4 shampoo will be a good purchase to promote new growth as will high quality deep conditioners such as Pureology Superfood. Rest/sleep is important, dont skimp on it. Exercise is also great for your skin and hair, work up a good sweat at least four or five times a week. Obviously avoid hair dryers, tongs etc. Instead of stressing over it think positively of all the good you are doing to grow new and healthy hair!

Re: Split End and Damaged hair.

@SanjiaR I highly recommend the Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector Pre-Shampoo Hair Repair Treatment 3.3 oz / 100 mL

I have added this into my routine and it has made a huge difference. I am currently in the process of trying to go lighter so any little bit of help is great for my hair! I hope this helps 🙂

Best,

Rebecca

@SanjiaR,

It looks like you have some great tips already! I agree that taking a break from heat styling can really help the hair. I was using hot tools every other day and my hair was looking very dry! I also had to change my blow dryer as I found out it was part of the problem. I also suggest using a good leave in conditioner as well!

Re: Split End and Damaged hair.

@SanjiaR, the only way to fix split ends is to trim them. I do find using argan oil regularly helps extend the time I can take between cuts and it's very affordable from The Ordinary. I also love Kevin Murphy's Hydrate-Me Rinse. The name is misleading, it's a conditioner.

Re: Split End and Damaged hair.

If you're not using a quality salon-brand shampoo and conditioner then I highly recommend it. I heat-style my hair more often than I should, but using good shampoo and conditioner (AKA not drugstore) has made all the difference in the world. Also invest in a good deep-conditioning mask. Getting frequent trims is also very very important. You can still keep your length, but small trims every 4-6 weeks is important!

I see plenty of salon shampoos but i dont know which is actually good. can you suggest me a good one ? thanks

Re: I see plenty of salon shampoos but i dont know which is a...

It depends on your hair.  Is it dry?  Oily?  Fine?  Curly?  There is no one size fits all answer, and my experience it that a shampoo that a specific brand may have a shampoo for body that works great on fine hair but the same brands clarifying shampoo isn't so great.

Re: Split End and Damaged hair.

Get a good cut to get rid of the damage and use different products.  Cut WAY back on any heat styling--so bad for your hair!!
