Quest for my perfect dry shampoo

Is it weird that I’m looking for a dry shampoo with little or no scent? I have perfumes that I enjoy smelling like, so I’m not looking for such strong scents in my hair products. I’m currently working my way through the Sephora Favorites dry shampoo set. I like the Bumble and Bumble but not the smell. I liked the Ouai mousse but would prefer a spray. Several drug store brands are either overwhelmingly smelly or look bad on black hair. I’ve been searching for over a year.

Re: Quest for my perfect dry shampoo

@JenL87  I'm not sure which Klorane you were thinking of trying, but they have two that I've tried (I have dark hair.)

The Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk Non-Aerosol is actually a very fine powder that you shake onto your hair, rub, and in my case, I blow dry my hair in order to disperse the powder.  I actually do this every time I use a dry shampoo, spray or powder, and it actually helps give my hair enough of a lift or finish that I don't have to style it.

Klorane also has a Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk Natural Tint, an aerosol, for darker hair.  I hope you find something you love soon!

Re: Quest for my perfect dry shampoo

I feel you on the quest for the perfect dry shampoo. I'm still looking for mine. Have you tried Dove or Batiste (both have un/lightly scented versions)? I have friends who have darker hair and they rave about Dove.

Another silly question, do you spray the shampoo on in the morning or at night? I have medium brown hair and find if I let my dry shampoo sit in my hair for 10-20 minutes before working/brushing it in, the whiteness goes away easily. Maybe if you did it in the evening, you would get the effect and not the whiteness?

RE: Re: Quest for my perfect dry shampoo

I’m so glad I’m not alone. I haven’t tried the Dove, but Batiste feels and looks weird on my hair. I usually spray in the morning then brush it in after a few minutes. I used to use an Aveeno one that they’ve stopped making. I’m trying out Bumble and Bumble now, which does the job but is expensive. I’m willing to pay more if I really, really love it, but cheaper is always good. I’ll try the Dove next and see 🙂 here’s hoping!

Re: RE: Re: Quest for my perfect dry shampoo

@JenL87 I wasn't too impressed with B&B.  Shea Moisture has two nonaerosol dry shampoos that I've been trying to get my hands on.  If I could manage to purchase, I'd put it in a nozzle bottle.  I think they may be sold at BBB - and I just got a 20% off coupon.  Tag me if you are having difficulty finding other dry shampoos to try.  I gave some an extensive list of powder ones a while back on BIC.

Re: Quest for my perfect dry shampoo

I think Living Proof PhD (perfect hair day) is by far the best dry shampoo!! There is a scent, but it fades pretty fast in my opinion. The dry shampoo is not visible once you either massage into your scalp, or shake off. It refreshes my fine, flat hair whenever I start getting oily!

RE: Re: Quest for my perfect dry shampoo

I tried it in the Sephora Favorites set and it was ok, but I wasn’t blown away. I have thick, sometimes oily hair and it was ok. My thought is if I’m paying more than a drugstore brand, I was hoping to find something I really loved.

@JenL87,

My favorite right now is the IGK First Class Charcoal Detox Dry Shampoo. It works so well and gives my hair volume too! I end up skipping my volumizing spray when I use this product.

Re: Quest for my perfect dry shampoo

I've heard rave reviews about this one!  I would love to try it--I just don't love the price point :(.

RE: Re: Quest for my perfect dry shampoo

Thanks @melissabt ! I’ll add it on my list to try!

@JenL87,

You're very welcome:)!

Re: Quest for my perfect dry shampoo

Thanks for the suggestion @melissabt.  I've also been searching for a good unscented or very lightly scented dry shampoo.  I've used drybar before, but think it smells like dryer sheets.  It's not unpleasant, but too strong for me - it overrides my perfume.

Have you tried the B&B Pret a Powder?  That's also been on my list to try.

Re: Quest for my perfect dry shampoo

@RachFace2921,

I have tried that one! The one that is in the plastic bottle. It did not have a scent and I liked that it did not leave a white cast in my hair. (My hair was a dark brown when I used it).

Re: Quest for my perfect dry shampoo

@JenL87 I had to give up using Oscar Blandi dry shampoo due to the lemon pledge smell.  I'm happy that I did, b/c then I found Alterna Caviar dry shampoo and enjoyed the more fragrance-type smell.  Once they changed the packaging, I moved onto Klorane and I found it to low on smell.  It kind of smelled like clay to me, and now I'm so used to it that I barely notice it.  Both the Alterna and Klorane are nice, b/c the powder is fine.  (I only like powder dry shampoos.)  Best of luck!  🙂

RE: Re: Quest for my perfect dry shampoo

Thanks, I’ll definitely try those! I’m glad I’m not the only one. I don’t mind a slight smell (even clay) but I don’t want it to take the place if or compete with my perfume. I was planning on trying Klorane next if nothing in the Sephora kit stood out.

Re: RE: Re: Quest for my perfect dry shampoo

I tired the Klorane ages ago, but I don't recall it having a strong scent or anything. I also felt it did a good job on my hair (which is thick/coarse). I usually only wash my hair once a week and this was a great 4 or 5th day touch up for me.
