Pre-Heat Treatment

Hi all, I'm looking for recommendations for pre-heat sprays/ products! I have coloured hair (balayage) and am looking for something that protects my hair well without leaving it feeling like straw :'(

Re: Pre-Heat Treatment

I've been using Moroccanoil Perfect Defense for years. You spray it on beforehand, comb it through, then do your regular styling. I used to have processed hair halfway down my back and got a blowout every week, and my hair was still in great shape... this (and Olaplex) is what even made that possible.

Pre-Heat Treatment

I completely understand what you are talking about, I have had the same issue. (Especially if I use a flat iron to curl). The best products that have worked for me are Chi 44 Iron Guard Thermal Protection Spray and a product called Crack by Prolocks. I use Crack on my wet hair, and Iron Guard on dry. Heads up though, if you decide to try Crack, all you need is a tiny bit - too much makes hair look greasy.

Re: Pre-Heat Treatment

Hi PaisleyNatalia,

I know how you feel! My hair is naturally dark brown and I had it lighten up to 4 levels:( The only two products that saved my hair was the Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer. I am on my 6th bottle! I also use the

Bumble and bumbleHairdresser’s Invisible Oil at night (only on the ends).

Re: Pre-Heat Treatment

Have you considered switching out your showerhead for one with a filter on it? When I moved to Nebraska from SoCal I went from slightly hard to very hard water, which isn’t great for hair so I got a different showerhead and that helped my blonde stay cool in tone instead of taking a reddish cast from the minerals in the water. I dry my hair close to all the way before I go to bed because leaving it wet or really damp meant I wake up with very dry ends after the cotton pillowcases have sucked all the moisture out plus oily roots and I was hating the dry shampoo fix and generally was miserable until I figured out a better solution. I’m not 100% happy with the hard water filtered out only in the shower because some days I want to do a quick wash in the sink but can’t without the red tinge showing up. But the filter has really made a difference.

When I flat iron, I make sure to dry my hair all the way but don’t put any oils on until after  I finish with straightening it - I do have fine textured hair but a lot of it, so the less oil the better. I do olaplex step 3 once a week leaving it on for more than the 10 minute minimum, most times it stays on for an hour while I get other stuff done and then shampoo/conditioner as usual. I’ve been coloring my hair since I was 15, it’s been everything from black and burgundy to various reds and browns until I decided to go back to natural - blonde - so my hair was fragile when I started the back to blonde process and right now the length is just below the bottom edge of my bra band. I did cut it to shoulder length a couple times for the sake of better overall condition. With the use of step 3 olaplex  it’s become a whole lot stronger which is necessary when using heat styling if you want to prevent damage in the long run, and for me it also has enabled me to reduce the quantity and frequency of additional products for styling needs. When hair is healthier and stronger it won’t need a ton of symptom-addressing products for things like smoothing, shining, controlling frizz, etc. - I still do a weekly coconut oil treatment as a hair mask but find I use less now than I did when I began using it and dramatically less with the addition of olaplex (one day of the week with coconut oil and another for the olaplex, both on the same day is too heavy for my hair). Anyway, there are a lot of things I’ve learned over the years with regard to hair care, if any are helpful to others that’s a great thing. Otherwise all this info is just being shelved until my niece is old enough to be interested in such things if she ever is!

Re: Pre-Heat Treatment

Great thank you kindly for the input! ❤️

Re: Pre-Heat Treatment

Try Moroccan Oil treatment. Or S Factor flat iron shine spray. Both can be used on wet or dry hair and can be used before blow drying/ flat ironing or curling/ or air drying.

Re: Pre-Heat Treatment

I have balyaged hair and my pre-heat treatment regimen includes:

It’s a 10 miracle leave in product

Living Proof overnight cap perfecter

Living Proof restore repair leave in (on ends only)

Verb ghost oil OR Moroccanoil treatment (quarter size amount of either)

Living Proof restore instant protector (sprayed all over)

this has helped my hair SIGNIFICANTLY, and Olaplex no. 3 once weekly for the first month after I had my hair colored.

Re: Pre-Heat Treatment

Thanks for using Olaplex!
