Oily scalp and buildup

I’ve been struggling for over a year with my scalp/hair. My hair is super oily, and I’ve been dealing with a lot of buildup on my scalp. I’ve tried everything, from clarifying shampoos, silk pillowcases, hydrating conditioner on my scalp, no conditioner on my scalp, water softeners/filters, scalp exfoliants, treatments, not shampooing as often, shampooing more, EVERYTHING! I’ve used every product that my stylist has recommended. I’ve done everything the internet has recommended. I cannot figure out how to get rid of the buildup. Does anybody have any advice?

Re: Oily scalp and buildup

Sorry to hear. I had similar issues and the more product I try the worse. Silk pillows and masks all leave my scalp more built up. Do nothing and just wash with Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo (original pale yellow) to wash it.  Put no leave in products after washing!  If too dry after shampoo put a few drops of Moroccan light oil at the ends. Washed two to three times a week. After a few weeks, it felt better. That helped me.

Have you seen a dermatologist or even a regular doctor @Cherie72 ?  Sometimes it's a specific skin issue that needs to be isolated before using different products.  Or, perhaps you're reacting to specific items in these types of products.

Great idea.

I tried that but clarifying shampoo dries the scalp more and it gets more oily later. But it may work for some…
