Oily Hair SOS!!

I have very fine, thin hair. I am a teenager and I have found that as I get older when I wash my hair, it get an oily feel to it once it dries. Some friends suggested buying some new shampoo and conditioner. But reviews on Sephora don't give you a lot of advice. What are some good shampoos for thin, fine hair?

Re: Oily Hair SOS!!

You may want to consider adding a declarifying shampoo once in a while to your routine. I don't have super fine hair but I would say that maybe every 6 weeks I'll start noticing that my hair is getting greasy faster and for me usually that means there is build up of product in my hair. I like the neutrogena one, it always helps but it is not something I would use all the time.

I also think you may want to try out some dry shampoo if you haven't already that could really help between washes.

I have very oily, very fine, very thin hair as well. My holy grail for years was actually a drugstore brand!

Nexxus HydraLight shampoo: this is their lightweight line; it does an excellent job of cleansing while still leaving just a touch of moisture to keep my roots soft without stripping them, and keeps the oil at bay.

Nexxus Humectress conditioner, but never on the roots. This is their classic full-moisture line...it's too heavy to use all over on fine/thin hair so I'd use it starting at my ends and working it up lightly within a few inches of my scalp. My ends are drier than my scalp, so this method did an excellent job of balancing out the moisture of my hair all over.

Adding some light moisture to oily hair seems counter-intuitive, but it works...at least it did for me. It took me 30 years to figure that out and finally tackle that strategy...I so wish I had done it sooner! Even if Nexxus isn't a brand you want, consider lighter moisturizing products from other lines, and don't be afraid to mix and match various lines within a brand or even brands themselves to find your perfect cocktail.

I've since moved on to hair loss shampoo and conditioner (sigh), but if I ever decided to go back to "normal" stuff, I'd pick Nexxus up again in a heartbeat!
