Keratin Treatments

Has anybody ever done a keratin hair straightening and smoothing treatment done to their hair? I've been wanting to do it, however I'm a little concerned over how much damage it can cause if it causes damage. Please shed some light aha.

@newbie0720 Keratin is great for your hair as long as you're getting your treatments done at a reputable salon and not doing them too often.  A reputable salon won't allow you to get them done too often and will suggest you do not use products at home that contain keratin after treatments.  There's a such thing as over proteinizing your hair and that's when you can see hair becoming gummy and breaking off.

@newbie0720

I have extremely curly/frizzy hair and I have had the keratin treatment done on my hair quite a few times over the years. I have never had a bad reaction - my hair always ends up looking healthier after than before.

The keratin does not make my hair straight, it just takes the frizz out which makes my hair more manageable over all and makes it way easier to flat iron my hair (the only thing that ever made my hair actually straight was the Japanese straightening and that is horrible for your hair, I did that twice when I was younger).

I find it lasts about 2 months of being great before wearing off during the third month. I don't wash my hair super often usually about every 3 days. They always say that it will last 4-5 months but that is never the case for me but I know someone with finer hair and she says it usually lasts that long for her.

If you decide to do it look for a groupon. Almost every place has deals for first timers so you can save a lot of money, I've never paid more than like $120 to have it done and I live in a major urban area and have hair well below my shoulders (some places charge more for longer hair.)

Overall, I find the Keratin worth it in the summer months. It's just too hot to be spending any extra time straightening it and when it's humid I don't want it to puff up outside. I had it done in June, but now that it's going to get cooler again I don't think I'll spend the money again till next spring.

Hope that helps!

Re: Keratin Treatments

Don't do a keratin treatment! I have searched for years for something to help my curls and everyone always told me keratin treatments. I finally did one and my hair is constantly in knots. I have damaged my hair beyond repair constantly detangling it.
