I need help!

So i recently figured out i have 1b 2a wavy hair but have been treating it like straight hair my entire life. Now i want to learn how to take care of it but i have no idea what products work for my hair type or what doesn’t work. The amount of products are so overwhelming but also focus mainly towards curlier hair. Please help!

Re: I need help!

@EmilyA2002 My hair is similar, but probably more like 1c to 2a. I agree with @NadiaDenisse : sometimes less is more, and it can be easier to enhance the straightness than to try to make decent-looking waves. I have recently been trying to go for bends instead of waves. Yesterday, I shampooed with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner, then applied a little Bumble and bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat Protectant Leave In Conditioner Primer 8.5 oz/ 25... - just enough to detangle. I then combed my hair back and let it air dry. I added a little Kérastase Elixir Ultime Refillable Hydrating Hair Oil for Shine to tame the frizz on the ends when dry. It still looks good this morning-bends with movement, and no frizz.

Re: I need help!

Ug. So I have the same hair type. And I did a deep dive on wavy routines and will share my notes. But to be honest, it was a lot of hard work for little return on results. It’s much easier for me to “drown” my hair in moisture so that it ends up being basically straight. My advice with this hair type is: less is more.

Wavy Hair Routine

  1. Detangle hair
  2. Shampoo (any that cleans hair well. Stay away from heavy hydrating ones)
  3. After the shower brush hair and spray light Leave in Conditioner (this is where I chose to stop)
  4.  With wet hair (not sopping but enough to make a subtle squish sound) begin to apply a wave product of your choice. Mouse seems to be popular, a lot of ppl like not your mothers brand
  5. Scrunch product in and pulse (squishing multiple times)
  6. T shirt hair plop (there are tutorials online) to dry hair for a bit
  7. Let the “cast” set (let it stay crunchy). Some ppl will diffuse their hair instead.
  8. After a few hours scrunch or gently shake the cast out. Some ppl use some hair oil here.

Like I said, it’s too much effort for me. I just pick 1 creamy leave in product & scrunch. Do the t shirt hair plop. And once my hair is damp, some oil on my ends and that’s it! Hope this helps!
