How do you clean a straightening brush?

I have a Conair straightening brush that is in need of a serious cleaning but I can't figure out how! It has build up on the plate. I tried a wet washcloth, a comb, twirling toilet paper around a small screwdriver even. Any suggestions?

Try going in with wet twine, and pull the twine like you would polish a shoe. It should work

Maybe try a toothbrush with ammonia...in a well ventilated area.  I've used ammonia to clean my caked on curling irons a long time ago and worked well.

Ammonia may be far too harsh. Manufacturers suggest a mild cleaner.

Thanks. I've tried a toothbrush but the bristles aren't long enough to reach the build-up. It would come off easily but I can't reach it.

I used dental flossers. The individual ones. scraped sooooo much gunk off the teeth of my straightening brush. But now i need a cleaning solution to use on a regular basis.

Great idea 💡, I'm gonna try the flosser and maybe a little vinager/water mixture on one of those aluminum straw cleaners (they come with the set of straws) lol....k... I'm desperate ha

I just tried dental floss and it helps. But I suggest using the flat floss and not round or fine. And it should be unflavored.

I’ve written to the company that made my brush to find out if cleaning tools are offered and, if not, to suggest they be made. In the meantime, I’m using large pipe cleaners like dental floss. There may be a mild cleaner just for this but until I find it, I’m using a multi surface cleaner first then I go back over the brush with more pipe cleaners dampened with plain water to “rinse” it. The flexibility of pipe cleaners allows me to clean both vertically and horizontally. It’s ridiculous that we have a tool like this brush with no way to clean it! A toothbrush is a bad idea — it can scratch the ceramic teeth and and those rough edges will tear up your hair.
