Help finding a better hair wash routine

My hair gets greasy about a day after washing it. I have greasy roots and dehydrated length. I currently use the L’oréal Elvive Hyaluron  Purifying Shampoo and Conditioner. I know I shouldn’t be using a purifying shampoo every other day when I shower, so I need help finding a good one to use often? I want to aim to only purify a couple of days a week. I want my hair to be hydrated but I don’t want the shampoo to contribute to the grease. Please help!

Re: Help finding a better hair wash routine

I have this hair type, @jacqueline0304. my current routine is:

Day 1: clarifying shampoo * 2 washes (I like the OUAI Detox Clarifying Shampoo with Apple Cider Vinegar but there's a lot of good ones); scalp scrub; and a deep conditioner on my ends

Day 2: usually okay, nothing but a brush through (this is important to transfer any oils to my ends)

Day 3/4: dry shampoo K18 Biomimetic Hairscience AirWash™ Dry Shampoo 4 oz/118 mL is the GOAT 🐐 best dry shampoo I've ever used. I use it only my roots. If my ends are really really dry, then a little bit of hair oil or some sort of hydrating product.

Day 4/5: wash with gentle clarifying shampoo X2 (I'm using the L'Oreal Professional Scalp Advanced); wash with texturizing shampoo X1; regular conditioner in ends only

Day 6: same as day 2

Day 7/8: same as day 3/4

Day 9/10: same as day 1

Day 14: same as day 1

I did have to train my hair away from being something I washed every day. I grew out my hair a bit, so now that it's longer, brushing the oil down from the scalp has a way to go, so that helps prevent the oil build up, but when I had shorter hair I had to wash almost every day. The K18 shampoo has been really helpful in this regard. I don't blow dry or use any styling products in my hair beyond a texturizing spray, but I do wrap my hair in a microfibre towel when I shampoo, the other days I don't get my hair wet.

It could also be that if you're using a really stripping product all the time, that your scalp is trying to balance that by producing a lot of oil. So maybe trying a more gentle daily/every two day shampoo with a weekly detox shampoo + deep condition might also balance it.

Re: Help finding a better hair wash routine

@jacqueline0304  Two questions for you-

1. Do you condition your roots?

2. Do you blow dry your hair after you wash it or let it air dry?

I ask because your hair will get greasy quicker if you condition your roots and my hair tends to get greasy quicker if I don’t blow dry my hair after I wash it. If I blow dry, I can go 2 days without needing to use dry shampoo and am now able to wash only every 4-5 days where previously I was having to wash every other day due to hair getting greasy.
