Hair Dryer

Hi beauty experts,

My T3 featherweight kicked the bucket and will not turn on so I am shopping around for a new hair dryer. I was never in love with my T3 and replaced a ton of them but I stuck with them due to the warranty as it is rather good and cost me relatively nothing to replace over the years.

I have long, wavy/curly color treated hair that I only blowdry when I straighten (couple of times every couple of weeks). I do need to follow up with a straightener afterwards. I would love a diffuser that could help on days I don;t have as much time to air dry but the T3 diffuser just frizzed out my hair so I stopped using it.

I am looking at the Sephora blow dryer (love the travel one), the Devacurl dryer (love that it comes with a diffuser and is meant for curly hair) and the Buttercup by Drybar. I tried the GHD blow dryer ( love my straightener - 8 years still going strong) when it first came out but didn't love it. I also looked into the Dyson but the warranty is only 2 years - for the price point it needs to be longer than 2 years.

I am a little worried about the Devacurl and the Buttercup as the reviews seem to indicate that they stop working 1-2 year after using it and with a warranty of only one year this is somewhat of a concern for me.

Would love to know your recommendations and anyone who has been using the above dryers for 2 years+ without any issues.

Thanks so much for your help. 🙂

Re: Hair Dryer

I recommend Bionic. I do not know what the warranty period is. My bioionic has been dropped a few times and it still works. I use it daily and I have very thick hair.

Re: Hair Dryer

Yes, I have had a lot of recommendations on the Bionic and they have a 10 year warranty on the motor  so it is definitely a top contender now. It is just a much higher price point - $500 for a hair dryer seems excessive but if it lasts 10 years it is totally worth it. Thanks. 🙂

Re: Hair Dryer

@JJVIB  have you re-qualified and used your VIB 10% off this year? Also if you can wait for higher cash back... all these little extra savings do add up 🙂

Re: Hair Dryer

@JJVIB If you are always replacing your hair dryers, you may want to consider the store selling them more than the brand.  Many stores will stand by their products no matter what.  Lord & Taylor once boasted that they will take ANY product back.  Costco is lenient with their returns, too; last I knew, they sold T3 online.  So maybe if you can't find a longer-lasting dryer then you can get a refund/return from the store and keep getting new dryers.

Re: Hair Dryer

Ah never even thought of that. I don't go to Costco as there are none closeby (I am downtown) but I do recall that Bed Bath and Beyond has a similar policy so that might be worth looking into. Thanks for the tip:-)

Re: Hair Dryer

@JJVIB And thank YOU for the tip about BBB!

Re: Hair Dryer

@JJVIB Another recommendation for Bio Ionic. I purchased the 10X model a couple of years ago after my original T3 blow dryer stopped working after 10 years. I purchased the Bio Ionic Difusser separately.

From your comment that you complained about the T3 difusser making your hair frizzy, I believe that you are not using it properly. When I dry my hair, I blend down and flip my hair foward and massage the difusser on my roots in sections to get good volume. After I am done drying my hair I move my head back and the volume is incredible. It takes me about 10 minutes to dry my thick wavy shoulder length hair.

Re: Hair Dryer

Wow 10 years with a T3? I went through a ton of them and they weren't dropped or handled poorly. I heard the quality has decreased throughout the years.

As for the diffuser, I go to a hair dresser who specializes in curly hair and she showed me how to use it. Similar to what you said, maybe I got a lemon? I will try with the new dryer once I purchase.

Definitely considering the Bionic - thanks for your suggestions. 🙂

Re: Hair Dryer

I bought the buttercup travel dual voltage one as I travel internationally a lot. It worked great and is so full of power for the tiny size. I am not sure about if it would work or not after 1-2 years as I just bought it two months ago.

Re: Hair Dryer

Thank you, I hear they are great tools. My main issue is durability. I would rather invest more in one with a better warranty than leave it up to chance.

Re: Hair Dryer

I haven't used the brands you mentioned but thought I would suggest you look into Bio Ionic.  I have 3 of their tools and had them for years. I love the brand and when mine breaks I'm buying from them again. I've had a T3 and it broke real fast. Had a CHI that got too hot and a few others.  I definitely prefer and love Bio Ionic.  I also have long wavy hair and it used to be color treated. Just wanted to give you another option in case 🙂

Re: Hair Dryer

Thank you Veronika, much appreciated.

I looked at the Bio Ionic briefly but didn't see any warranty information posted. How long is the warranty on the dryer? If it is good and has a good warranty I would definitely consider it. 1-2 years for $500 is just a little ridiculous in my opinion which is why I am not pursuing the Dyson.

Thanks for your suggestion. 🙂

Re: Hair Dryer

@JJVIBI am sorry I don't recall and don't have the information anymore. 😞 I also didn't purchase via Sephora and bought from a place that only sells to licensed hair dressers.  Maybe the brand site would tell you?  Think I've had it for close to 10 years now.

Re: Hair Dryer

Just an FYI this dryer has a 10 year limited warranty on its motor. Definitely  going to look at it more seriously now. Thanks again:-)

Re: Hair Dryer

Wow 10 years is impressive. Okay I will check it out - thanks for your help. 🙂

Re: Hair Dryer

Wow! I did not know that @JJVIB! Thanks! Good to know 🙂

Re: Hair Dryer

I am definitely impressed. 🙂
