Do I really need a boar bristle brush?

Lemme start by saying Merry Christmas and lol that we're all spending this holiday on the sephora app together. I'm hoping to gather opinions on whether or not boar bristle brushes are actually all that great, or if it's a case of over hype. I've read all about their supposed benefits and was wondering if these brushes actually make a difference. I have very thick, straight-to-wavy non-chem treated hair. Thanks!

Hairstylist here! besides what was mentioned above about sebum distribution. Boar bristle brushes create more tension; therefore smoother straighter hair. Personally I prefer a ceramic round brush because it creates more volume, bounce and bend 😊

@onewomanarmi There are several benefits of boar bristle vs. nylon bristle brushes, I'll just run down a few. Boar bristles help to distribute sebum (oil) throughout your hair (which is why your hair is shinier after you brush with a boar brush), because of sebum distribution your hair CAN stay cleaner longer (though I call BS on this one), conditions hair (again by distributing sebum), less breakage.
