Best Shampoo to Use with Overtone

I am working from home until January at the earliest. This is my only chance for probably years to dye my hair pink again. I had it hot pink when I was younger but don't think I want to bleach it. I ordered Overtone pink conditioner for brown hair. Right now I only wash my hair once a week and I use Head and Shoulders with almond oil. I am guessing that's really going to strip the color quickly. The conditioner to use regularly from Overtone was out of stock in pink. Can someone recommend a good shampoo to help me maintain color? I don't want to be scratching my head all week either. Thanks!

Re: Best Shampoo to Use with Overtone

@sprocketta. I used to have blue and purple highlights in my hair a couple years ago and I always tried to wash my hair as little as possible (hey there dry shampoo) in cold water.  I switched up the shampoos all the time and just made sure they said safe for colour treated hair.

Do post some photos when you use the overtone, I'm currently with medium dark brown hair and would love to find something fun like this that works for brunettes without having to bleach. I really love that you're having fun with the stay at home!

Thanks @missjeanie I'm at the point where i figure this is probably my only chance to do this so I should go for it. I don't wash my hair more than once a week. It's insanely long, I'm getting it cut in a week, and I'm only wearing it up. I will post photos and give you a review. I'll tag you when i post.

@sprocketta you've got the perfect attitude, go for it girl! I can't wait to see it!

Re: Best Shampoo to Use with Overtone

@sprocketta I haven't used the head and shoulders, but I find that even with my daily washes with the Verb Sea Texture Shampoo 12 oz/ 355 mL that the overtone color last for a fair bit. Admittedly its been a little while, so I couldn't tell you off the top of my head, but I feel like I'd dye it, and then daily or every other day washes and weekly color conditioning with the upkeep conditioner was fine for a month before needing to do the color paste again. My hair grows super fast, so that also was a factor. I don't recommend the Verb necessarily, after using it for a while, I've found that its a bit drying for everyday, but am using it as a comparison. I think you'd be fine to keep with your standard shampoo.

I had been using the Briogeo Color Me Brilliant™ Mushroom + Bamboo Hair Color Protect Shampoo for a while with my overtone before the verb, and that made it last a bit longer, but I didn't like how it didn't seem to clean my hair as well as I like. The primer in conjunction with thr shampoo and condition helps.

Hope you enjoy your pink hair!!

Re: Best Shampoo to Use with Overtone

Thanks @haleyvvvv I'm glad to hear about time-frames on usage. I'm getting a haircut as j have way too much hair and I won't dye until I've chopped some off.

@sprocketta

I wouldnt worry about that. Overtone is our worst nightmare in the salon. Its so difficult to remove from the hair.

Re: Best Shampoo to Use with Overtone

@GG84 That makes me a little nervous. I know they sell their own facing shampoo. I'm still going to do it after a haircut next weekend. But I don't want to be stuck tinted pink going back to the office. Any recommendations on how best to get it out?

Re: Best Shampoo to Use with Overtone

@sprocketta

It’s such a pain to get out. Bleaching it out causes problems we’ve found, for example the black shade turns hot pink when bleach touches it, the blue goes orange. Best advice is for removal find a salon that uses Malibu C products and have them do Color Distruptor and CPR. These are pro only items that must be done by a stylist. Its the best way for removal with the least amount of splotcy spots left.
