Am I using too much product?

My hair won't stay straight/frizz free.  I use a TON of product (IGK Primer, Reverie Milk, Ouai Rose Oil, and Bumble and Bumble Thickening Mousse for volume at the roots).  But my hair will not stay frizz free or straight after a blowout.  What am I doing wrong?

Re: Am I using too much product?

Hi! My hair is very wavy but not curly but for years it was the frizziest thing alive. I had been using good products but pretty average shampoos and conditioners. This completely changed for me when I started using biolage matrix shampoo and conditioner. It smooths out my hair beautifully and Im so thrilled with my hair for the first time in my life! If you arent using a high end shampoo now, I highly reccomend, I didnt realize it would make such a difference.

Re: Am I using too much product?

Thanks! I use the alterna moisture shampoo. I've been pretty happy with it, but maybe I'll try Biolage. Can't hurt...

Re: Am I using too much product?

Wow @jwarner. This sounds like my story completely. I used to blow dry daily and while it looked great at home it would gradually boof up until it was a mass of waves again. Rain was another story altogether. It's kind of when I decided that if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. I've been wearing my hair curly ever since. Could it be an option?  I can tell you it's far less frustrating 😉

Re: Am I using too much product?

I wish!  The problem is that my hair is only slightly wavy, with parts that are completely straight. If I go the natural route, I end up curling parts. And then that falls flat by 10am!!

Worst of of both worlds... I guess I probably need something with a whole lot of hold.

Re: Am I using too much product?

Couple of questions:

1. How curly is your hair to begin with?

2. At what point do you put the products in?

It does sound like a lot of product but it kind of depends.

Re: Am I using too much product?

My hair is only moderately wavy. But it's fine, so I use mousse for volume. I just need something to prevent the wave from coming back!

I put most of the products in while my hair is damp (pre blowout).

Re: Am I using too much product?

@jwarner That doesn't sound like a lot to me...maybe you just need different products?  Here's a post I wrote about my recs for frizz-control:

I also think that a flat iron with heat protectant spray could really help you 🙂

Re: Am I using too much product?

Thanks!  Yeah...I must just be using the wrong thing.

I'll blow dry my hair straight, but then by the time I arrive at work, the waves are back!

Re: Am I using too much product?

You sound like me a few years ago.  I went a year product free (using only coconut oil) then found Magic Mane by Eva NYC (found at Ulta) in a beauty bag (thanks Ipsy) It keeps me frizz free,de-tangles, and protects against heat.
