why are we bothered by 10-13 year olds

OK so I understand everybody is mad at the 10 to 13-year-olds but you have to realize

some 12-15 year olds are v-ping and drinking at those ages . it’s better to be addicted to skin care instead of drugs, alcohol ,nicotine . it’s not your problem if they damage their skin why should you care when it’s not your skin. I get that the testers are being messed up but it’s not only the pre teens . You guys are teenagers and grow adults making fun of preteens don’t you think that’s a little embarrassing. Yes a lot of them are disrespectful but some are really nice and respectful. Please take this in consideration. Thanks for reading

Re: why are we bothered by 10-13 year olds

I'm not really mad at them, I don't shop in store much so I haven't seen how accurate or biased some of these stories might be, but I am heavily concerned about the long-term effects of the damage they're doing to their skin now and how little their parents either know or care about it. Fragrances and essential oils are incredibly easy to be sensitized to, and you can't use that oil or fragrance without having a reaction to it again after that happens.

These products also have a lot of actives and acids, which can break down layers of the skin, and a lot of really common allergens and their relatives and close pollinators and protein matches. I would know, I'm basically allergic to outside and also existing around humans and water. Trying to find skincare, makeup, and hair products that even just have a low chance of giving me a reaction is like trying to find a specific needle in a haystack made of needles. If I had oversensitized my skin to that degree, or even was just trying to avoid all my allergens, it would probably be impossible to actually find something unless I hired myself a chemist to personally make my products for me and ensure they weren't contaminated through the entire process.

These kids don't know what they're doing, that it has long-term consequences, or why people are telling them it's dangerous because they're teenagers and they're having fun trying out all the things their favorite influencers are using all at once. And what pre-teen or teenager is consistently making Sephora money And getting access to all of it?! Their parents are the ones with the money and should be the ones who are responsible enough to look into what their kid is interested in. Instead, they're either disinterested so they don't know, or their kid is making them money and getting them status by being an influencer themself to even younger kids so they encourage them. Either way, I don't blame the kids, I blame the adults that keep buying their kids this stuff and letting them run around the stores like its a playground.

Re: why are we bothered by 10-13 year olds

Agreed.  I’m not mad at the kids. I’m mad at the parents who are letting the kids make wrong choices that will actually impact them negatively.

I stopped going into Sephora and Ulta. I like to shop in peace. It seems a small percentage of parents decided the best way for them to shop is to use stores as daycares.  When I was a teen, I had fun picking out makeup with my mom. She taught me what was age appropriate. These kids are going to end up with all kinds of skin issues and potentially infections from the samples.  I feel the parents are also robbing themselves of a bonding and teaching experience.

Re: why are we bothered by 10-13 year olds

@mearaaaaaaa I think for me it is just a little sad to watch. This generation is being robbed of their childhood once they are 7+ they are to cool for toys and it is on to makeup and skincare. Their is being so heavily influenced by social media and unrealistic standards that it is probably damaging their mental health. While skincare may be damaging their skin blame it on social media which made them think they need elaborate skincare routines for their already good skin.

Re: why are we bothered by 10-13 year olds

I thought people were exaggerating complaining about 10 year olds! Until I witnessed the horror first hand. Sephora is small like 5 ppl in one little section is pushing it. Today I saw 8 little girls or more they were everywhere. Also Unsupervised the parent was in a different store and just let them go browse. I walked in with a plan because mind you it was the weekend and a busy time. They were darting screaming to each other when they found a as seen on tik tok items. They were abusing the testers. Not mindful of others around them at all; crowding and not leaving enough room for a lady with a stroller. Then a Sephora employee came with all the patience trying to rally them up and show them around like a museum tour guide and they were rude to her too. I was ready to leave And as I was standing in the check out line the store got quiet. there was 3 cops standing outside the door. I asked my husband what happened and he said a bunch of little girls were escorted out and he innocently thought it was because they were shoplifting. I never considered that might also be a possibility. There I was thinking they just wanted to make skincare smoothies with the testers.

Re: why are we bothered by 10-13 year olds

Simple because they are taking products from US. They are messing up products meant for us, they are ruining the testers meant for us, and they're giving themselves chemical burns all while people like us who need these products or use them every day have to resort to using more expensive or lower quality products that mess up our skin.

Re: why are we bothered by 10-13 year olds

@mearaaaaaaa you make a good point.   What had me bothered recently, though, was a lot of tweens and teens darting through the store, being loud, going all over the testers and taking up mirror space....my problem was that while I think it's great to browse, I was there to do some serious shopping with significant money to spend and I was deterred was comparing products.   I had to give up, and didn't spend any money.  Yes, today's browsers are tomorrow's shoppers, but those of us who have been serious shoppers for years and years should be accounted for, too.

Re: why are we bothered by 10-13 year olds

I completely agree @greeneyedgirl107❤️ specifically when they come ruin everything disrupt the atmosphere and leave with nothing.

Re: why are we bothered by 10-13 year olds

@happyskincare ruining testers is what I would call vandalism, and milling about in store is what I'd call loitering.  Esp since many malls have closed stores, Sephora stores are what's open and so they're the new hangouts.  Ulta does not seem to be like this, and there is one in my mall parking lot.

Re: why are we bothered by 10-13 year olds

Yup, @greeneyedgirl107 .  There's a certain type as well.  We all go through that stage, BUT,  I will say that the positive experiences I have from tweens and teens are usually those who are reared to be this way.  If you let kids cause chaos, they become, well, chaotic.  That's the type that isn't great to have in-store not only as a customer, but also as an employee.  You @mearaaaaaaa , don't strike me as the type (if you are under 18).

Re: why are we bothered by 10-13 year olds

I think it's natural to be empathetic towards these children who are being influenced just like we were at their age to use products associated with big names and brands that ended up being terrible for young skin. I think many people see these young kids using drunk elephant, and the like, as the same as using St. Ives or Proactiv at that age and want to stop the practice because many people have literal scars that can affect confidence from said misuse. Something along the lines of breaking the cycle and preventing potential self esteem issues, because older generations have plenty themselves. As far as annoyance goes I think it derives from a lot of the activity seen in stores and online, where children are shown to be breaking sample products and being kids (loud, excited, and running around in a generally chaotic way). This frustration may seem only on these kids, but the expressed anger is actually is more targeted towards the parents who are not doing their jobs to make sure their kids are being respectful and acting with care in a store where many people use those same samples to gage whether they should spend their own hard earned money on things. It's important to consider how this affects store employees as well. When a child is left alone in their store, they are the only ones who will deal with the full consequences of their parents' actions. The expensive samples that need to be replaced are lost revenue. They are the ones cleaning the stores and the messes left behind. They are the ones who have to deal with lost revenue as their store becomes associated with children, making most grown ups not want to come in and instead purchase online. They are expected to act as essentially babysitters when it was never in their job description. Overall, it's not the kids' fault in the end, because they should have been taught better by their parents, and that where I think the argument lies. Please let me know if you feel differently!

Re: why are we bothered by 10-13 year olds

I understand where your coming from completely. The adults leaving kids in stores like Sephora gives kids a lot of freedom. A lot have yet to learn self discipline at that age so it’s more then just yelling and running. Some haven’t been taught rights and wrongs in a store especially if there just being left there as a 10 year old.  So they are ruining testers, opening expensive products that they now can’t sell, and they also steal fairly pricey products. I do blame mostly the parents for these actions and think there needs to be new rules or come up with solutions to stop it or decrease it because they should still have access to some products. Things like any teens shopping should be with a parent, shop online and get your kids the basics or let them pick out stuff online, and bringing them to more kid friendly stores can help a lot. I don’t think getting rid of kids in stores is the solution we we’re all excited to start using makeup and wanted the newest products but that was things that we were learning from other kids and not grown adults on TikTok. That’s just my opinion not saying adults are doing anything wrong just pointing out some things that I’ve seen.
