The What R U Watching Challenge ~ Post Your DVR or Streaming Queue!

So I know there are various threads where we post what we are viewing/streaming but I thought it might be interesting for 2018 to have a CHALLENGE to post the queue of your choice for what you are currently seeing on your screen. 🙂

Rules:

1. Rules... There are no stinking rules! (just kidding!)

2. No really.. basically take a screen or type a list of the queue of your choice. Acceptable lists could come from such places as your: home DVR, YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Video, etc.

The more we share... the more you know! (oh wait... I'm not an NBC commercial!) But in all seriousness, my hope for this thread is by sharing these pics and/or lists we will learn about new shows, movies, series, etc. that some of us maybe never knew about before. The more we share, the more we learn. Sharing is caring!!!

@RebeccaBT, I know there are a lot of GoT fans but I am going to drop a cautionary note here. Personally I found it near intolerable to watch because of the casual violence toward women. I also found it had really tired racial stereotypes. I had to stop watching it.

The first episode of GoT involves r*pe of a young teen and that is pretty much how the show rolls. I have actually had people try to explain how that scene was not r*pe - what, because the character is 100% being forced against her will but she's not screaming and fighting, it's... something else? Anyway, people told me to overlook that scene and give the show a chance bc it's so good. And it's true that the production values are through the roof, the costumes are just stunning.

However, if you continue, it does not improve. There will be multiple instances sexual violence toward women. In one scene a woman literally says NO repeatedly and she is r*ped anyway. There's also a man who suffers sexualized violence by another man. I just had to stop. None of this is presented critically. It's presented as entertainment. There are ways to represent the violence women suffer on tv that do not make it seem like it's normal for men to want to r*pe. I am tired of people who say, "well this is what it was like for women historically." Seriously? There are flying dragons on the show, how hard would it be to imagine a fantasy world where women are not regularly threatened by sexual violence??? I have friends who are huge fans, and there are interesting things to talk about from the show, but I just had to stop.

Anyway, this is not a criticism of people who watch and enjoy GoT! Like I said, my friends are fans and I don't think any less of them for it. I get that people can enjoy things that are problematic and that doesn't mean you would ever support such things in real life.

It's a good show and book series, but not for the faint-hearted! If you decide to skip some parts/episodes, you can ask your boyfriend for a recap lol.

I loved the Umbrella Academy too, @sockmagnet ! Now Im bummed I didn't read the books when Gerard Way announced them. Oh well haha. I guess I'll have some books to read now 🙈

I am halfway through the Umbrella Academy . It’s quite fun . I’m watching it with my daughter so no binge watching, just one episode every night.

Before it we watched Titans and absolutely loved it. Can’t wait for the second season.

@JaneanBT Klaus is the best, totally worth watching the show just for Robert Sheehan. Aidan Gallagher is pretty cool as Five too.

Has anyone seen Peaky Blinders? My hubby and I are slowly making our way through the series. I like Polly, the woman on the right, who is the most reasonable character in the entire show so far. The sets, clothes and music are all amazing, but it is also very violent, and it frequently repeats how war was psychologically damaging for many young men. Though I'm sure it's not historically accurate!

There are also a lot of allusions made to the IRA and some IRA characters so I rented Steve McQueen's The Hunger, which is about Bobby Sands. I only know a little bit of that history and did not learn much about The Troubles in school even though I think I should have, given that Canada was a British colony. If anyone has recommendations for good non-fiction books on the topic, I am all ears!!!

I finished the second season of PB and have to warn people here that it gets soapy and predictable. On top of that, there's unnecessary violence against women 😞 What the women suffer is portrayed as negative, but it's also done in a rote, melodramatic kind of way, so I'm not watching this show anymore and cannot recommend it 😠

I did also watch The Hunger and it is excellent!! It is not at all easy to watch for it is unsparing in representing the brutality of the British state. However, it is not gratuitous or cheap in its representations of violence. Highly recommended!

Is anyone planning on watching Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists? Lol feel like the original already took like countless hours of my life to end up with the more plot holes I've ever heard of but I was also so invested I feel like I'll end up watching this just for like Mona and Ali haha.

I gave up at some point when “A” was revealed and then later it was like ha, we take that back..not the real “A.” I don’t even remember anymore. Trying to block out the bad memories. Such a disappointment since the first seasons were amazing. @Kim888 @cianni congrats on making it to the end!
