Hello BIC friends and fellow gardeners! Whether you have a container on your balcony, some indoor plants, a whole garden, or even if you just happen to visit a botanical garden or see a lovely space or plant in your neighborhood you want to share, this is the place! Please share pics, tips, plans and tricks about all things gardening!
For many years I had a container balcony garden with mostly flowers and herbs (when travel allowed), and I am now embarking on my first backyard landscaping and gardening journey.
I am often taking inspiration from the natural world around me and have recently had some spring inspiration for the Makeup Challenge of the Week and have loved chatting about gardening in our other threads, so I thought a new thread would be nice.
It’s always so interesting to me to see plants and gardens from different regions and countries, so I hope you’ll join the conversation!
PS: if you create a makeup look based on some plant or garden inspiration, please feel free to post your look or flat-lay here, too!
Here are a few pics of my spring bulbs to start and I’ll share more soon (kindly ignore the weeds)!
My old balcony (from the outside) - I’ll try to find an internal pic too:
@Titian06. Fresh vegetables are a treat!
Now that’s a haul @Ispend2much6! What are your plans for these delicious veggies?
@JoSometimes Thank you! Right now marinated cucumbers, zucchini bread, pasta alla norma sauce, my family loves eggplant parmesan, and using the Hungarian wax peppers for beef stew.
So I see a road trip- what time should we show up for dinner?
Do you ever can the vegetables for future use or do you prefer to use them right away?
That sounds so yummy @Ispend2much6! Bon appetite!
A few updates from around the yard. Everything is still in containers because the landscapers keep getting delayed! Hydrangea progress pics, it’s so pink and pretty!
I originally bought the Tahiti hibiscus ( pink double bloom) but then I saw the Fiji which is tree form (white with pink center/edges) and had to have it, I want to put it on the corner with the mock oranges. Now I don’t know what to do with the Tahiti.
The ranunculus are so odd looking and not like I expected, or anything like their pics on the package, not sure if that’s because of the conditions, but who knows.
I’m obsessed with the poppies, they’ve been blooming constantly!
Not pictured, but the cherry tomatoes are looking good, and I have three jalapeños close to harvesting! Mint and parsley are flourishing, all the rest of the herbs are hanging in there.
Hydrangea is short bit so pretty!
Fiji Hibiscus.
Lavender that survived the winter.
Poppies!

Poppies have abounded.

@sister13 Your property is looking so colourful and pretty! So many flowers blooming even though they aren’t in their homes yet!
Thanks!! I am sooooo looking forward to having things planted but of course we are slated for the hottest weather of the summer so far! 😩😩 @JoSometimes
@sister13 I understand completely. We’ve had some pretty unbearable weather here too. It’s either too hot or too rainy.
All of your flowers are so pretty, @sister13 ! How exciting that you'll be eating fresh from your garden produce soon! 😍
Thank you!! I really wanted a captese salad the other day but was musing fresh mozzarella, so I just had tomato (store bought) and basil (from the garden) with balsamic, olive oil and salt/pepper. Picking up some fresh mozzarella today!
I’ve been enjoying the mint in hot tea and some mint Sun tea. I need to make some mojitos!! @Titian06
Looks like a sunflower is getting ready for its big debut in a few weeks! 🌻
Except I didn’t plant any sunflowers this year… 🤔
My guess is either a seed fell down into the crack between the walkway and the house last year or a squirrel tried to bury its stash in the crack. Either way, I’m just going to let it grow and see where this goes. There’s no transplanting this without breaking it. 😅
Who needs to grow in a pot anyway!? Not this guy! 💪
@JoSometimes I love it! So funny you didn’t plant any! I think I have some potato plants coming in my garden this year and like you I didn’t plant any potatoes lol
@ather I had one in a pot in that spot last year. This year it was tricky to get outside on the weekends to do major yard work with either weather being uncooperative or the atmosphere being saturated with wildfire smoke.
I’m just so amused that it’s thriving in that spot! It’s like looking at a cat sleeping in a bowl… How is it comfortable in that position?
