Hello BIC friends and fellow gardeners! Whether you have a container on your balcony, some indoor plants, a whole garden, or even if you just happen to visit a botanical garden or see a lovely space or plant in your neighborhood you want to share, this is the place! Please share pics, tips, plans and tricks about all things gardening!
For many years I had a container balcony garden with mostly flowers and herbs (when travel allowed), and I am now embarking on my first backyard landscaping and gardening journey.
I am often taking inspiration from the natural world around me and have recently had some spring inspiration for the Makeup Challenge of the Week and have loved chatting about gardening in our other threads, so I thought a new thread would be nice.
It’s always so interesting to me to see plants and gardens from different regions and countries, so I hope you’ll join the conversation!
PS: if you create a makeup look based on some plant or garden inspiration, please feel free to post your look or flat-lay here, too!
Here are a few pics of my spring bulbs to start and I’ll share more soon (kindly ignore the weeds)!
My old balcony (from the outside) - I’ll try to find an internal pic too:
Seeing your gladiators has helped me identity this one persistent flower that has grow out from under the landscaping fabric and mulch by my driveway. I should really go rescue it. Thanks @sister13!
Oh wow!! They really are neat ! Like, we get so much wind here and these are still standing tall! Keep us posted if it works out. @JoSometimes
I’ve been meaning to share my indoor plants! Okay, I’m so annoyed at the formatting and layout here, but whatever!
My fiddle leaf fig. Poor thing is in a small pot inside this planter, I need to repot it and give it some space, I’ve had it a little less than a year, and I think it just put out one new leaf at the top this spring. It’s super chill. You can also see my tiny FLF and a purple shamrock. There’s me next to the big one for scale!
And me next to the tiny one for scale, lol. Then another small tree plant I don’t know what it is, but it’s super chill too and also needs to be repotted.
This one was at my house in 2021 in a big shipping box after my mom passed away but it had no card or note or address! It’s looking a little neglected, which it is, but should perk up when I trim the brown edges and it needs to be reported too! Oh and a green shamrock. This one is special (even though it’s not the same plant) because I got one for my mom when she came home from the hospital in 2020 and it thrived, so I was so excited to get one this February over St. Patrick’s Day, it makes me think of her, next to the plant someone sent me!
And this one regularly puts out new leaves and seems super happy, but I need to repot it too!
Actually, this format is fine, but the one above is so annoying all squished together!
Your indoor plants are all so gorgeous and healthy @sister13 !!! And so big! 😵 I would love to have indoor plants, but I need to take them out when I travel (because when it happens is for a long time and they wouldn’t have enough water) And if the weather is nice, I just bring them back when I come back but if it’s not, the can die anyway and that’s sad. But if I see a tempting indoor plant, I know I won’t be able to resist and I will pick it anyway. Also, my indoor plants tend to get diseases but they go away when I take the plants outdoors. ☹️
Yes, that’s tough. I have managed to find very hardy indoor plants that don’t need to be watered more than once per week. At the condo, I didn’t really have enough light and space inside. It’s definitely a challenge when traveling, but I’m just not traveling much at the moment so things are surviving! I haven’t had problems with diseases but it’s dry here so maybe that’s why. @Saradestin
@sister13 really cute assortment of indoor plants! I love it!! I know the repotting is really a chore 😅 I have like 70 plants waiting for it to be repotted... 😮💨
You will soon need that machete I was talking about @jaaayp ! 😅
@Saradestin I'm hoping my plants accept that I am the hand that feeds them and move their leaves open when I walk by 😅
@sister13 - I love the plant in the bottom pic. All your plants look great. Just imagine how they'll look when you repot. You've even got a couple of four-legged helpers to assist! 😄
I have the tiny tree too @sister13. It does not die. It’s been neglected and forgotten but always perks back up with some water.
I have a couple more plants inside, 2 palms that the cat nibbles on so they look terrible, a rubber plant I’ve had probably 10 years that has survived so much neglect with all my travel over the years, and another mini tree trunk looking one. None upstairs at the moment, they kept dying. @JoSometimes
