Hello BIC beauties! ๐ I realized we don't have an active music thread here in BIC (there seem to be a few different short-lived threads from years past, but nothing recent as far as I could find), and I thought it would be fun to have a place to recommend our favorite artists and songs, chat about what we've been listening to lately, post our song of the day or anything else music related! Everyone is welcome to join in however you like, however often you like, and all types of music are welcome! ๐
โHappy Friday everyone. Tonight down at the pizza parlor my song of the day will be Duran Duran ( Hungary Like The Wolf) . Great song to get the weekend started with. I highly recommend the song and video. Fashion Makeup fun song and video helped shape my imagination. Plus it leads into my next post ( Story Time With Sissyboi ) . It'll post first of next week. Stay tuned. Enjoy.
i LOVE Duran Duran so much! i just bought some fan magazines off Ebay and have been loving looking through all the photos of them, their early 80s new romantic style has some of my favorite fashion and makeup moments! the planet earth music video is so good!!
Wow @emilyyymonizzz !!! We'll your going to have alot of fun with Duran Duran. When they came onto the scene it was the beginning of MTV. The were really pushing the video deal asking bands to do something different. They would make little movies to go with there songs. Fashion makeup rockstars models exotic locations melodramatic acting, pretty awesome if u ask me. So many songs so many videos. So much fun. U picked a great band.
@sissyboi72 Okay so, two hours ago a couple friends and I (weโre all gen x) were chatting about Duran Duranโs new vs. old music, and the consensus was โtheyโll never top their first 3 or 4 albums,โ and of course โHungry Like the Wolfโ came up in discussion*. The whole chat started when we were thinking of concerts weโve seen over the years. I saw Duran Duran live twice in the โ80s. Wouldโve seen โem a third time had they toured with David Bowie on the midwest leg of his Glass Spider tour. (They were with him only for some of his west coast US & Canada stops.)
Anyway, seeing your post feels super coincidental, so cheers! ๐ Might have to play Seven and the Ragged Tiger or Rio later today.
*Haha, we sounded like such snobby old heads. But I do really like โConfession in the Afterlife,โ the last song on Duran Duranโs last studio album (Danse Macabre). The lyrics arenโt the best, but the song sounds beautiful.
Thank you @WinglessOne for taking the time to read my post and share your memories and thoughts with me. I would say yeah the early 80's for me with Duran Duran was and will always be my favorite. Not just the songs but the videos the image the fashion. The videos were like a little movie. My favorite question to ask people is what's your favorite decade for music. I always assume people will pick the decade they were in the teenage years. For me the 80's. You might have a couple years on me though u might remember the 70's better. If u had to pick a decade of music and movies fashion. Wut would be your favorite?
@sissyboi72 Hmmโฆ my fave decade for fashion, specifically music-related fashionโฆ probably the โ80s. Those were my teen years. I do remember the โ70s though (I lived through almost all of โem) and still have a soft spot for the stage performance outfits women wore then. The 70s saw the 60s fishnets, mini skirts, and go-go boots and said โhold my glitter!โ Had I been a teen in the 70s, Iโd have stylistically been a mix of Chaka Khan, Stevie Nicks, and Sex Pistols.
I was mostly goth punk in the 80s but, in true punk fashion, listened to almost all kinds of music because no one was gonna force me into a single box. ๐ I hated Madonna (and still donโt like her music); I was (still am) a Cindy Lauper fan. Her whole aesthetic vibed with me. So did 80s goth and alt. All that and other stuff was an influence on me and, to this day, carries into my clothing and makeup in some way. Itโs been decades since I last dyed my hair blue though.
And the music videosโฆ man, I miss the days of actual music TV. You can still find a few mini-movie music videos on YouTube by current bands. But yeah, they donโt make โem like they used to.
Again @WinglessOne @Titian06 thank you so much for sharing your memories with me and the BIC. I can't wait till next week. I got a good one to share with you ( BIC). Im going to tell u my story on the song and I can't wait to here yours stories about the song ( of any).It came out when I was so young didn't hear it for decades. Then all of a sudden just came back and brought back a flood memories and feelings.
Love "makeup gangster" moniker you've given the group @sissyboi72
Thank you @danielledanielle. Your hearts (likes) mean alot to me. Im going to have to start to copy right some of this stuff though haha. I did a review a couple years back in it i say ( I ONLY WEAR MAC) . A couple months back I go into a Mac store they had a promotion with posters on the wall they said ( I only wear mac). I was like that's my line. I Write these reviews with big story lines there liable to go make a movie about make up gangsters.
I canโt stop listening to Archbishop Harold Homes by Jack White, Aperture by Harry Styles and anything by Sleep Token. ๐ซฃ I think itโs time for me to go to another concert soon!
And "Like This and Like That"
I think I was channeling at bit of this and the song came to mind ๐คฃ
โ
Wow @danielledanielle when I listen to the song and watch the video I couldn't help but imagine me and you walking around the mall shopping at Sephora and cruising through the stores looking and trying on different clothes and you singing this song to me. I'd be in all my Pinkies gangster attire faux fur jacket pink bandana blushed out cheeks glossed lips ( pink of course). Lol. So much fun. Then we would jump on my chopper ( motorcycle) parked out front and head over to the pizza parlor that my broski's hang out at for a couple slices and a soda. What a day!!!!!!!
I aim to please @danielledanielle you tell me. To me a day at the mall isn't complete without a visit to the food court. I wanna make my presence known. Arcade too ( my mall still has one)!!!! Lol.
Today's song of the day is:
Eva Noblezada & Patrick Page - Hey, Little Songbird (from the Hadestown soundtrack)
@haleyvvvv yes, it's one of my favorites!
Today's song of the day is:
Ruby Throat feat. Katie Jane Garside - Pretty Polly
My very favorite version of this old, old folk song. There is a video of this performance - live on a train somewhere in France - on YouTube, and it's quite something.
Hi @caitbird I've always been a big Cash fan. I would say being a boi named SISSYBOI my favorite song would be a " A Boy Named Sue" I can totally relate to the song. U can probably figure out why. Enjoy.
