Hello BIC beauties! ๐ I realized we don't have an active music thread here in BIC (there seem to be a few different short-lived threads from years past, but nothing recent as far as I could find), and I thought it would be fun to have a place to recommend our favorite artists and songs, chat about what we've been listening to lately, post our song of the day or anything else music related! Everyone is welcome to join in however you like, however often you like, and all types of music are welcome! ๐
@itsfi my parents don't like musicals but my grandmother does, so I guess it skipped a generation ๐
That sounds like a great plan, I am hoping to keep going over my pan it plans for the next couple of weeks and hopefully I'll be all set once the new year rolls around! Out of curiosity, how do you decide how many products/categories to include in your panning project for the year? I know you have been participating in this challenge for several years now, so you've probably learned a lot about what works for you through trial and error.
@caitbird, that's cool that you and your grandma share a love of musicals.
Oh, yes, I've had my share of trial and error periods with panning. For the last couple of years, I've gone with 10 products at a time and that has worked for me. My plan is to have 10 pan products next year as well. Some years, I've had more goals, but still 10 products. So, for instance, the Natasha Denona Biba palette is 1 product but this year, I had 4 different goals - full pan on 3 shimmer shadows and hit pan on a matte shadow. The Yves Saint Laurent Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadow Palette 100 Stora Dolls palette is on my list for next year's pan it! challenge - my ultimate goal is to pan the entire palette but for 2025, my aim is to hit pan one shadow. I haven't decided which shadow and for this first one, I won't target one shadow to pan, at least not initially, but will just use the palette and see what natually shows more dips and dents first. At some point during the year (or a subsequent year), I might call out a specific shadow in the quad that I'll work on hitting pan or full pan.
One year I decided to try to be cutesy and aimed for 22 products in 2022. Super catchy but my goodness, that was too much for me. At that time I swapped out skincare and hair care products much more frequently than I do now so perhaps with the right combination of pan items, I might be able to manage a pan project like that better nowadays, but 10 is a good fit for me for the last couple of years so I'm sticking to that - it gives me some structure to work through certain products and build up a habit / consistency of use, but it also allows me flexibility to incorporate other products into my routine should I want that.
Some other strategies that I've learned over the years include:
Some of it will just be about trial and error and finding out what works best for you. You can always start out with (a larger or smaller) pool of pan products and pare down or add to that throughout the year as you get a better idea of what and how the challenge is working out for your and work will work best based on your needs and lifestyle.
@itsfi wow, thank you so much for sharing all your thoughts and insights, you've definitely given me a lot to think about! I feel like I have a tendency to overcommit and include too many items and goals in my projects, and then a lot of them carry over into the next year...but on the other hand, I do find it helpful to use the pan it project to keep track of my overall goals and keep myself accountable with my progress. So I guess I will try to assess what has worked and what didn't this year (and last), and tweak my plans for next year's project accordingly. And I will try to take your advice and compare your strategies to my current plans to see what might work better with some adjustment - thank you again! ๐
Getting into the holiday mood, today's song of the day is:
Elliot Maginot - Christmas On My Mind
I discovered this song quite by chance on YouTube a couple of years ago now, and I just think it's so lovely. Anybody have any fav Christmas/holiday songs?
@caitbird I have a couple great holiday choices of songs. ....
Glow by Brett Eldredge
Deck The Halls/Jingle Bells by Michael McDonald
Joy To The World by Mariah Carey
Peace On Earth/ Little Drummer Boy by David Bowie and Bing Crosby
Hope these hit your fancy.
@CocoLancome28 - The Bing & Bowie duet is great...it's a classic! ๐
I love Christmas / holiday music @caitbird! So many favorites ... a few of them include:
@itsfi those are some great ones! I love Trans-Siberian Orchestra's holiday instrumentals.
@caitbird, I was thinking about going through a larger declutter sesh later in the month with that as my background (motivational) music. ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ต๐ถ
@itsfi that sounds like a fantastic plan! Always important to have that motivational soundtrack when tackling projects ๐
This may be before your time @caitbird, but it'll remind me of little Kevin McAllister racing home to set his trap for the Wet Bandits in the original Home Alone movie. ๐๐คฃ๐
@itsfi you know, I still have never seen Home Alone...I know of it through cultural osmosis, but haven't actually watched it myself. I guess it's on the never-ending list of "movies to see...someday" ๐
@caitbird - A couple of my faves are
- Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses
- Father Christmas by The Kinks
@Titian06 I don't think I know either of those ones, I will definitely check them out! I'm always on the hunt for new Christmas/holiday music this time of year. Thanks for the recommendations!
Fun question @caitbird Growing up I loved Angles We Have Heard On High ๐๏ธ ๐ what about you?
@CynthieLu when I was a kid I liked The First Noel, I think. Now one of my favorites is 'Zat You, Santa Clause? by Louis Armstrong, it's so fun!
Such a great topic and never thought of a song of the day topic.. how awesome .๐
@caitbird so hard to pick a song of the day but my song of the day is Sailing by Christopher Cross such a beautiful zen ballad also I love his song Ride Like The Wind...
#YachtRock #besides beauty
@CocoLancome28 glad you like the thread, and thanks for joining in! I'm not familiar with this song, I will definitely check it out! I've been getting so many great song/artist recs from this thread!
@CocoLancome28 - Love Ride Like the Wind and Don't Pay the Ferryman! ๐ต๐ค๐ง
I haven't heard Don't Pay The Ferryman in forever ..such a rare gem by Chris Deburgh ... @Titian06
I also like the song Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel ... also I like Dua Lipa she's not only a talented singer/actress she's also the face of YSL ads for the Libre scent and the loveshine lipstick.. love her song Houdini ๐ต..
Ooopsie, @CocoLancome28 ! You're right! I had the wrong Chris! ๐ Thanks for straightening me out. I'm not familiar with Dua Lipa, but a few people have mentioned her. I'm going to have to take a listen!
Peter Gabriel! Yes! Love his music! I first heard him when he was with Genesis. Another great band...and Phil Collins could sing the phone book! **sigh**
