Iconic Makeup Trends Part 1 1950’s

1950’s Trends

Pastels and Powder (light pinks, greens, yellows were common)

Blusher ( came in common colors of pink and red) aimed to get a flushed look

Eye Shadow (commonly expected to match blush and compliment outfit for any occasion) (shades of grey, brown, green, and blue were common)

Mascara (listed as essential and sometimes includes a line on top lash to open up eye) (black and brown common for everyday) (they then introduced mascara to match eyeshadow shade)

(Which included colors like blue)

Lipstick (red was a popular color at this time) (applied to lined lips with a touch of powder and set with gloss)

This is so interesting!

What are your thoughts on 1950’s makeup?

Do you use any of these practices in your routine?

1960’s Makeup Trends Part 2

Here are the most common trends for makeup in the 1960’s

Notice any similarities between the 1950’s and 1960’s?

Do you incorporate any of these looks into your routine how are they similar how are they different?

It is so interesting to look at beauty trends over time.

  1. Matte skin (minimal makeup) no highlighter, contour, bronzer. Matte foundations with concealer and powder were used more during this time.
  2. Minimal blush- soft pink or peach most common
  3. Winged Eyeliner (thick)
  4. Doe Eyes
  5. Cut crease eyeshadow (vibrant colors)
  6. Graphic eyeliner (eye liner designs)
  7. Sharp eyebrows
  8. Less colorful lips

Thank you! I did my research haha but I think it will be fun to see how each decade connects 💕

Re: Iconic Makeup Trends Part 1 1950’s

I personally love how makeup has evolved over time and the ways it has stayed the same, it’s so neat I bet there are a lot of different ways each decade of trends filters into todays!

Re: Iconic Makeup Trends Part 1 1950’s

I think the old trends are fascinating @peculiarzmakeup

It's really interesting to see how makeup changes and evolves. What trends change and come back again.

Cool thread idea!
