This was inspired by my latest question in Beauty Ice Breakers and @JoSometimes 

If you had a theme song (think like 90s sitcom) when you put your makeup or skincare on, what would it be?

@danielledanielle  Ah, this is right up my ally. For me, music is life—and not just because I’m a pianist. 😅 I can’t pick one makeup/skincare theme song because I love waaay too much music to narrow the field. But I can tell you what I am (or was) listening to while doing makeup or skincare, or while doing my nails, or during a bath, or while exercising. So maybe I’ll do that instead? 

Today I listened to Swans while doing my AM skincare and makeup. I have a playlist that combines the original 1995 The Great Annihilator with the 2017 remastered version. I wound up listening to most of that playlist, though it didn’t take me the whole 2 hours ~15 minutes to prep myself. 😂 Some of that was at-home brunch time.

• White Light from the Mouth of Infinity was my favorite Swans album, until The Great Annihilator was released. 
  
  
• I’ve been to more Swans shows than any other band/artist’s shows.  
  
  
• Each time I see Swans live, I tell myself to wear earplugs but stubbornly decide not to. That’s why I’m partially deaf for 1-2 days after each show. I’ve never been to a show louder than a Swans show. That includes every metal and hip hop show, and classical concert, I’ve attended.

@WinglessOne  You are a pianist? I didn't know that. What kind of music do you play primarily?

I'm so bad about wearing earplugs at concerts. I don't go to many these days, but I went to so many during college and never protected my poor ears.

@PrettyPaint  I was classically trained and still focus on classical. But I also like to play jazz and pretty much anything that grabs my ear. I also do a lot of improv that could be fleshed out into full pieces, were I much (much, much) better about writing them down. 😅 I originally learned to play by ear and had a hard time learning to sight-read as a little kid. I guess I never fully outgrew my contempt of sight-reading, since I get so obstinate about filling in staves. 🤦‍♀️

Ear plugs are almost like admitting defeat in a way. That’s a bad way to think of ‘em, but it’s hard not to. Especially during the teen and college years, when we all seem to think we’re invincible. I hope you don’t have any lingering noticeable damage from those days!

@WinglessOne That's incredible that you do improv. Have you tried any of the music notation software like musescore? I personally haven't, but it seems like a shame not to save your original pieces. I wish I was better at playing by ear, but I learned to read music first and probably wasn't as motivated to sound things out.

Yeah, I do miss albums that were a complete story, where you can listen to each song and interlude and not actually want to skip. I will also check out these swans...maybe it's kismet thing as I was watching a fam of mute swans earlier this week.

@CorgiMommy I was born in 81 and just loved that culture.   I've always been a little jealous of my much older cousin who was in her late teens/20s back then!  She was so cool and so 80s!

YESSSS @greeneyedgirl107 , that is a song I loved when it came out, but then I didn't want to add it to a playlist because it got too popular, now it's a little older, I can listen to it over and over!
