The Travel Beauty Thread

(January 2023) Thought I’d resurrect this thread, now that there’s a bit more possibility of travel these days! I would love to live vicariously and learn from fellow BICers, so please post any tips, pics, and/or your fave travel minis or routine!  I’m still not doing a lot of travel these days, but may post some pics and notes from past trips.  💗💗💗

—————

Since the old travel thread sadly got lost in the switchover (😢😢😢) it was suggested a while back, and I’ve been meaning to get a new one started. If there is one already for this, let me know. I travel a bit for work and for fun, and I love checking out beauty stores and seeking out exclusive or hard-to-find items in different places around the world. Some of my favorite makeup destinations have been the Face Powder and Perfume Museum in Torino, Italy (a surprise find) and the Les Merveilleuses Laduree in Tokyo. I have relied on great tips from other BT/BICers on many of my trips, especially Toronto and Tokyo, so I would love to keep this updated as a resource for BIC.

Please share your discoveries, store reviews, pictures, purchases, and travel tips, and I’ll try to keep and update summaries here in the main post for future reference. If you don’t have a chance for much travel, feel free to share your favorite beauty destinations in your home city. I plan to update with photos below from various trips as I have the chance to organize my archives and update. What do you guys think? Feel free to make suggestions on how to organize this thread, too, it might be a bit of a work in progress. Thanks and happy travels BT/BIC!

Re: The Travel Beauty Thread

I’ve finally got some time (and energy) to dump some photos from my trip to Japan this summer.

Tips: if you’re going in the summer, make sure to get a portable fan (my BIC one is in storage so I had to buy a new one there 🙄), some cooling wipes and a ton of hankies. Luggage forwarding is a lifesaver if you’re moving to bigger cities and buying a second suitcase is cheaper than shipping things home. Last year we bought a suitcase to fill with shopping goodies but this year I opted to just ship stuff back home so I wouldn’t have to lug two heavy suitcases around. The shipping option was 3x more expensive but for me it was 100% worth it.

What I learned: no amount of products won against the elements. That humidity was KILLER despite being armed with anti-frizz everything. The minute I stepped outside, I had to put my hair up in a bun and call it a day. This made getting ready quicker but I am not a fan of having my hair up allll day as my scalp gets sore towards the end of the day.

I made sure to buy a few new things to help with the heat and humidity.

What worked:

Thigh Society The Cooling Shorts- I wore these underneath dresses to prevent thigh rubbing and they were a dream. 10/10 recommend and I’m still using these under dresses since it’s still hot out where I live.

Megababe Thigh Rescue- I used this on days when I wore shorts to prevent thigh rubbing and this worked as well! It does go on greasy so be aware but that wears off semi-quickly.

ONE/SIZE by Patrick Starrr Oil Sucker Extreme Mattifying Alkaline Primer 1.01 oz / 30 mL - holy moly, Batman. This was amazing and was the MVP of the trip. It kept my makeup on all day, didn’t break me out and even worked on days when I was soaked from being out during the typhoon. My makeup never moved or smudged- it was beautiful.

SweatBlock Wipes- purchased on Amazon and used only one time during the trip but did find it helped cut down sweat in the pits for 2 solid weeks.

Hydrocolloid Gel Bandages- purchased these AND blister bandaids in anticipation of all the walking and we used up almost all the bandaids during our trip. They prevented blisters on me and helped with healing blisters on my bf. I broke my nail taking off my seatbelt early on in the trip and these bandaids helped prevent more injury to the finger/nail despite my 3 showers a day and multiple hand washing.

What didn’t work:

Megababe Bust Dust- in theory, yes I get how this may work but it did nothing to stop the sweat. I applied this on the bust to soak up sweat mid-day (sorry for TMI) but that was mainly to just feel like at least I was putting it to use.

Thanks for the great info and pics, @gonerogue ! 🤩💖😍  You and your husband are too cute!  Love the hedgehog pic. 🦔  I'm glad you found some awesome products and had a lovely summer!

Re: The Travel Beauty Thread

My husband and I had a fabulous time picking up my younger son from his summer study abroad in Oxford and then the three of us visiting London! We saw Exeter College, the Oxford Botanical Gardens, the Bodleian Libraries, St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, the Tate Modern, the National Gallery, and The Phantom of the Opera! Then we got home, and I got sick, then my older son got sick, and then my husband got sick. 🤧 But we had a wonderful time! I haven’t posted a picture of myself in a long time, so here is my husband and I in London, my younger son took the picture.

Re: The Travel Beauty Thread

Thx you @itsfi @Ispend2much6 🌹

Re: The Travel Beauty Thread

Thx you @Titian06 @CorgiMommy . This is Moonstone Beach, Cambria California. It’s exact half way between LA and San Francisco. Years ago I did multiple trip from LA to SF using Pacific Coast Hwy (Hwy1). It is a beautiful drive but I never stopped in between. My husband suggested we do a little trip to Cambria where there are many little beach front B&B. A further sound (13 mile or so) there is Cayucos another little cute beach town. The only con of these beaches is that they are cold so no swimming.  Surfers have still go out but they have wetsuit on. We got lucky with 70s degree weather at the moment. A further north (about 7 miles) is San Simeon Hearst Castle 😘 a bonus if you are wine drinker because we have lots of wineries around.

  • Lovely shop Grüne Erde, with Natural Beauty and housewares.

  • This Weigano Perfumerie and Kosmetik surprised me. Tiny store front but a long narrow store inside packed floor to ceiling with prestige fragrance, cosmetics and skincare. I could have spent hours here. They had a wonderful German perfumer featured Lengling, and I’m hoarding some samples until I get back to Germany/Austria next time.
  • Weigano.
  • Weigano, the store went back like 3x this length. Heaven!
  • Nägele & Strubell (Nails & Brushes) is another high end Austrian shop/chain. They carried Annick Goutal, and some Middle Eastern fragrances that were new to me. Lots of variety.
  • Oh Canada!
