The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

• Which item(s) you would like to work on
• How long you will work on said item
• Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
• Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

• share what item(s) you are working on,
• provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
• ask questions,
• encourage others,
• motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

• Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
• If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
• Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc. 
• Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
• Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
• Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
• Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
• Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

• Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.) 
• Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
• Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
• Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
• Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

@cianni, it’s killing me that I haven’t hit pan on either of them. It shouldn’t as I don’t use them often but it does! 😆 

Oh wow! That’s very diligent and organized - 5 years of products you’ve tried?!’ That’s impressive Cianni! It’s been eye opening working on Biba for so long. Has made me take stock of what I have, what I use and the great divide between those two metrics. I’m more of a user of makeup and skincare, less so a collector, but you wouldn’t necessarily know it given what I have. And that’s even with cutting back and relocating a lot of stuff  over the last couple of years.

@itsfi yes! It started as a tracker for samples received, because I would try something a couple of times and could never remember if I liked it or not come sale time! Eventually it snowballed into everything I’ve tried and own, but it’s been a great resource for when I’m asked for recommendations, it also serves a similar purpose as your Biba - makes me more cognizant of what I have (and how much of it!)

Thank you @Samtian! I know. I almost called it on Biba this year but those 2 shadows, it’s bugging me. 😆 I’ve never known a project pan without Biba so yes, it will be very weird. But one more year!

I’m pulling together my 2024 project, and thought it would be a good time to update on my 2023 progress!

I had some pretty lofty goals for 2023: pan any 100 items, including 21 specific items. I also wanted to hit pan in 2 palettes.

out of the 21 specific items, here are their stats:

• i ended up decluttering 9. I wasn’t enjoying using them and have products I love more.
• completely finished 3, including 1 30ml fragrance! 
• 1 was a skincare product I couldn’t use while pregnant, so only made a small dent in it at the beginning of the year and had to sideline it after that 
• Still working through 8, although most are SO close to being finished!
• hit pan in one of the palettes, and made an okay dent in some of the other pans 

I completely finished (to date) 84 products, and I anticipate that I’ll have 2 more that will be finished by the end of the year!

some of the items I’m still working through for this year will make it into my 2024 pan, and I’m thinking about decluttering the rest, because they’re just getting a little too old at this point to justify keeping.

@missjeanie Thank you! The main takeaway for me was that it’s okay to declutter things in my project if I simply am not enjoying them - no pressure to finish if I’m really struggling to work through something!

2023 Pan update I finally hit pan on my hourglass palette!!! I emptied the Saie sunglow. I am almost at half on the CT setting spray. It looks like I barely put a dent in the givenchy setting powder even though I used it a lot. Since I used so much of the Saie I barely used the CT flawless filter. I had a CDP concealer on my list, but it has disappeared .

Overall I’m pretty happy with how I did. Next year I will have to focus more on the CT flawless filter and setting spray.
