Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Hey all you cool cats and kittens, welcome to YEAR 6 of the Pan It Challenge!

ElleElleG_1-1672620471899.gif

**Join us in the 2024 thread available here: Pan It! - 2024 Challenge

The "Rules"

To accommodate a variety of interests, you all are encouraged to pick items to pan that are most suitable to your collections.  For some, this might mean focusing on a particular type of product (like lipstick) and for others this may include a larger variety spanning your entire makeup or skincare routine.

Getting Started (please share the following)

  • Which item(s) you would like to work on
  • How long you will work on said item
  • Goal: explore a new item, revisit an old item, decide whether to keep pass or trash, and/or completely finish item, etc.
  • Starting photo of item

Please Use This Thread To...

  • share what item(s) you are working on,
  • provide comparative progress photos of your item(s) monthly (at the beginning of the month when possible),
  • ask questions,
  • encourage others,
  • motivate others with the looks you create with your item(s)

Tips and Tricks to Panning/Getting Some Use Out of Your Stash:

Spoiler
  • Take photos!!  When you think you aren’t making a dent in anything look back at those photos, I’m certain you’ll see some changes 😃 *this is the number one recommendation for everyone, regardless of how long you’ve been panning! Those photos add up and can help you realize progress you might otherwise overlook.
  • If you goal is to hit pan or use something up entirely, try concentrating your brush/applicator in the same area each time you use it
  • Multitask your products: eyeshadows as highlighter, lipstick as blush, eyeshadow as brow powder, etc.
  • Layer eyeshadow to create different colors (this is especially helpful to get use out of shades you’re not fond of).
  • Have shadows with a ton of fall out?  Use water
  • Watching the progress of others’ can be fun but try not compare your progress to theirs.  We all use our makeup differently and have different goals.
  • Don’t restrict yourself to only using the item(s) you are working on.  It’s more than OK to incorporate other items or take a break!
  • Makeup should be fun….if you begin to dread doing your makeup because you made a commitment to use a product that you now hate, TOSS IT!  Do not force yourself to use up something you don’t like.  Move on to something else!  (This includes excluding particular shades from your goals if focusing on palettes, etc.)

Ideas to Help You Pan Those Items:

Spoiler
  • Roll the dice: number your items and use a random number generator to pick what you will use each (day/week/month/etc.)
  • Layer/Mask: items you are less fond of under things you like
  • Pan a Look: at the beginning of the week pick a look that you can wear everyday
  • Recreate: a look worn by a fellow BICer, celebrity, etc.
  • Spice up an "everyday" look by adding subtle pops of color (in the crease or on the lower lash line, mix lip products to make shades wearable, etc.)

Past Panning Challenges:

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@Cissy63 Great progress. I like your approach with lippies.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Good job!! @Cissy63

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

I love that CT duo @Cissy63! 😍 There IS a bottom to the Tarte blush! 😂 There were  times when I questioned that but there’s a bottom and you will hit pan!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Aww thank you for your encouragement @itsfi 🌸🌸

MARCH update

IMG_20230402_164840686.jpg

I have only about 1/4 left of the skin tint, but I'm done with it, I don't specifically care for the formula or shade.

The urban decay lippie is done, I'm scrapping the sides now, but I did love the color!!

IMG_20230402_165027754.jpg

I'm going to be switching to these two foundations and Natasha Denona lippie

My goal for the foundation is to use them a few times to see if I like them or hate them.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@lmaster Woo great job!! I can't wait to hear what you think of the Milk stick, seems interesting to me.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@Samtian thank you darlin! So far I like it, but...I'm noticing how extremely oily I look at the end of the day, so I'll have to play around with my matte oil primer and see if that helps at all

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@lmaster Nice progress and great goals. I will have to try the foundation approach. I have a few I have not used in a while.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@Mellmars1185 thank you 🥰 I have drastically pumped the breaks on buying liquid foundation, just to have it sit in a drawer 🤦

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@lmaster, nice work. It’s such a good idea to use what we have to see whether or not it’s worth keeping. I’ve been doing that more with new products I pick up but there’s a backlog that I really need to do the same for. Though o wonder whether I’ll discover or rediscover a product I love only to find out I waited too long to use it and it’s been discontinued?? Better to pull out some of my “older” foundations…

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@itsfi oh the older foundation list is LONG!! I did use the milk foundation stick yesterday and liked it

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

I’m feeling a little better that we’re in the same boat with a long list of foundations,  @lmaster🛶 😂 I’ll work to chip away at what I have (or destash something sooner rather than later if I find I just don’t like it). I don’t think this will keep me from picking up new foundation 😬 but it’ll slow me down … a little. Ha!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

I'm so late for my March update that I'm on time for my April lol February had a wee bit movement, but it was slim folks.  Anything that happened, did so in March anyhow.

I did finish off two products.  I learned that though the shade is nice, the concealer from MAC is a pass in the future.  It sat on my skin kinda funny and my under eyes is a focus of mine.  I actually finished this off by using it as a foundation a few days when I was working from home and the camera on my laptop couldn't tell that it looked less than stellar.  One more product for back to Mac.  The Summer Fridays Jet Lag mask isn't a favourite of mine.  I found as a leave on/overnight mask it left a film on my skin that I wasn't a fan of.  I used this up as a wash off before nightly showers.

My other big win was hitting pan on a Bronzer that may be older than some BIC members.... not proud of the age, but proud that I'm getting it used before she gets recycled.

Bye Bye!Bye Bye!All of these except the MAC foundation saw a bit of use, nothing crazy, but progress. The MAC foundation is not for me. It settles funny, but doesn't seam to set. The shade is nice, but I don't see myself using this unless it's a work from home day where no one really 'sees' me apart from a laptop screen. All of these except the MAC foundation saw a bit of use, nothing crazy, but progress. A huge win however was hitting pan on the Mac bronzer. This guy has been in several years worth of projects and most people would have tossed it long ago... Maybe come year end I'll admit how old it really is. Now that I have a few more months to back to mac... I'm going to keep using it as a bronzer and shadow, until I'm closer to June 30. Sad Face.I'm introducing three products this month to replace two. The PTR Peeling Gel... peeps... I don't know that this really peels off my skin. I'm pretttty sure it's just the mask peeling off on itself. However since it's not a fave, I'm hoping putting it in here will allow me to focus on it and have it move out of my space. The MAC concealer is a touch dark for my liking, but I'm hoping I can get away with it more in the warmer months and maybe move through another MAC product to return. May use as foundation mixed with moisturizer at some point.I'm introducing three products this month to replace two. The PTR Peeling Gel... peeps... I don't know that this really peels off my skin. Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@missjeanie Fantastic progress! I laughed at the bronzer comment. Bummer about things not working out for you. I'm slowly using that PTR myself.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@Samtian I swear I remember getting that bronzer like two years ago.... then when I really think on how many years ago it was.... yikes!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@missjeanie I hear that! I feel the same when Facebook shows me memories of my hauls I'm like 😬

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

That first sign of pan on a product is soooo satisfying @missjeanie! 😍 Excellent work on the bronzer and wowza! Look at that Studio Tech. March was a fab panning month for you!! Yaaay!

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@itsfi Now to keep up with it! lol.  I have a habit of going harddddd on an item until it's done but hating it by the end because I'm not mixing in favourites.

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

Great goals! @missjeanie

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@lmaster 💖

Re: Pan It! - 2023 Challenge

@missjeanie Great progress! I like how you mark the packaging so you can see how much you use in a period of time. I have the same lip oil. I haven't reached for it lately. That is too bad it dries your lips out. I will keep that in mind for the next time I use it.
