2020 Beauty Resolutions

I haven't seen this thread yet, so here it is! Time for 2020 beauty resolutions. Skincare, haircare, makeup, spending, whatever you want! I have a new job and want to look more put together for it. These are my resolutions:

1) Haircare - My sister gave me one of the heated straightening brushes. I want to use this at least once a week.

2) Skincare - Stick to my routine. In the last 6 months I upped my game and put together a great routine that works for me. Some nights I'm super tired and I let it slide. I want to be better about this as my skin looks so much better with the routine.

3) Makeup - Wear base makeup at least once a week. I love the IT Cosmetics CC Cream and the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer. I just finished my cc cream mini (actually the day of my job interview) and have a full-size waiting for me.

4) Makeup - Wear eyeshadow and mascara at least once a week. I have palettes I never use. It's time to break them out. I don't do anything fancy with my eyes, but I'm always pleased when I do an eye look, however simple.

5) Spending - Keep spending under control. I'm making more money now but those extra $$$ are going towards my credit card debt and then a down payment for a house. I'm going to keep it on a low-buy, but I'm allowing myself another 2 PMG lipsticks. Have to find a store that carries them as I won't buy blind.

Okay BIC folks, what are your 2020 beauty resolutions?

And happy holidays to everyone!

RE: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

I’ve pretty much stuck to my resolutions. I’ve only really purchased skin care (a little more expensive than I thought) and I made one Colourpop purchase with my tax return. But I’ve been using what I have makeup wise.

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

Bumping this thread up. It's now June. Have you kept up on any of your beauty resolutions?  Do you have any new goals? The pandemic has drailed a lot of us from wearing and using what we have.

I failed miserably on all of mine aside from low-buy. I'd been resisting decently until May. I got Rakuten money in my PayPal account and the Sephora memorial day sale and the PMG spring sale got me. I just bought a nice vanity tray for my tray to display my PMG collection. No more! I'm striking all my old resolutions. My only resolution is to keep loving and wearing lipstick, especially the now larger PMG collection. That's very achievable for me.

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@sprocketta You read my mind!  I was just thinking about beauty resolutions the other day, and wondering how we've all been doing with them.  I had to look mine up!

1) Haircare - Get my much over-due haircut.  Then, try to not be so lazy and use hair masks.  I truly intended to get a haircut in March...Haven't done any hair masks, but have been thinking about them -- if that counts!

2) Skincare - Get accustomed to the higher concentration of Retin-A.  Take more care of neck/decolletage.  Up my Vitamin C.  I have gotten more accustomed to the higher concentration of Retin-A.  I'm wondering if I should move up to 3x a week, but I'm liking not having to fuss about skincare too much right now.  I haven't addressed my neck/decolletage at all.  Blame it on being busy at work.  I haven't upped my Vitamin C.  My skin was a little weird in late Feb/early March, so I didn't want to introduce anything new in.  I've been doing some research, though.  I might try COSRX (although I hate that it's not in an airtight container) or Peter Thomas Roth Potent-C™ Vitamin C Power Serum 1 oz/ 30 mL; but we'll see which I finally wind up buying.

3/4) Makeup - Wear eyeshadow to work more frequently. NOPE!

5) Spending - N/a Smiley Tongue  I'm usually not in a place where I feel like I need to have a low-buy.  But with everything, I'm WAY down.  Until Ulta has their 20% off sale, anyway.

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@greeneyedgirl107 after going over my April and May spending, I am officially on a no buy the next 3 months.

Have you tried FARMACY - Very Cherry Bright 15% Clean Vitamin C Serum with Acerola Cherry? I love this product. It smells grea, is really moisturizing and makes my pores look tiny, even though that's not the focus.

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@sprocketta I haven't tried FARMACY - Very Cherry Bright 15% Clean Vitamin C Serum with Acerola Cherrydue to the fragrance in it.  I'm finding that many products I want to try have fragrance in them, so someday I may have to bite the bullet.  When that day comes, this one will be at the top of my list!  I actually contacted Farmacy and asked them if they would consider making a fragrance-free version b/c I had such interest in this, but they basically told me that they weren't exploring any such idea at this time.

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@greeneyedgirl107 I was drawn to the cherry serum specifically because of the scent. I think it's very popular because of that. I know many people don't want fragrance in their skincare. I really enjoyed the scent in the OH truth serum but was tempted by this. I use the OH c rush moisturizer for the same reason.

RE: Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

PMG has released some beautiful new stuff so I see why you purchased. I love the idea of a tray to display it on too! You should share a pic if you’re comfortable.

Re: RE: Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@KehDee I saw Sabrina from The Beauty Look Book (I love her beauty blog, she does though reviews and great swatches) did a post of decorative vanity trays. https://thebeautylookbook.com/2020/05/best-decorative-trays-for-your-vanityDOThtml

I was inspired because my collection (still modest but growing) is too big for the bathroom and they were scattered around. But some trays were pretty pricey. I spent a good 3-4 hours last night looking for one. After taking measurements and comparing prices, I went with one of her recommendations. It isn't going to ship until mid-June which is going to drive me crazy. I keep picturing how beautiful it will look with the lipstick boxes and tubes laid out. I pulled all my PMGs together but I'm wanting for the tray to post a picture.Screenshot_20200602-003223_Chrome.jpg

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@sprocketta

I didn't even know this thread existed. I didn't make any beauty resolutions for this year, I didn't know that was a thing - but it's actually a nice idea for next year. 🙂

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@CoffeeWuff I started this in December but it hasn't been touched in a while. Thought I'd breathe some new life into and see how people have done. In my case, terribly. I recall the lovely @KehDee commented at the time that she didn't make resolutions because they are easily broken. Proving very true for me!

I didn't set it at New Year, but earlier this year I decided to buy more grown up sophisticated makeup products, because I'm an adult or whatever. Thanks to all these COVID panic megasales I've done very well for not a ton of money (thanks, Marc Jacobs Beauty fire sale!!!). I need to straight up STOP buying skincare, bottles are literally falling out of my medicine cabinet when I open it. But I still love the hunt of high quality crazy cheap skincare, and I've realized that I'm kinda addicted to tracking incoming packages. I actually cancelled an order today, and it felt great.

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@sprocketta you go girl!! 🙌

RE: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

These are some great resolutions, @sprocketta! This upcoming year, I would like to prioritize self-care and be more mindful of the ingredients in my skin care, hair care, and makeup products. I recently made the switch to clean beauty brands am thrilled to begin using the new products and seeing what works for me! // Skin care: Indie Lee, Acure // Sunscreen: Hynt Beauty // Hair care: Innersense, Briogeo // Makeup: Ilia

I think Acure is criminally underrated as a skincare bran...

I think Acure is criminally underrated as a skincare brand (I haven't tried their hair products, so I just don't know). Their products are natural, innovative, and effective and they've maintained a really accessable price point. Ironically, I bet if they doubled their prices, they'd be treated more respectfully as a brand. 😕

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

I've been reorganizing the skincare I collected over this past year (I spent next to nothing and cared very little about it before that). I have an obscene amount of skincare that I collected over this past year in my quest to improve my skin and get into skincare.  I probably need to spend next to nothing on skincare this next year, so that's my ultimate goal. Use what I have. Funny thing- I just kept buying and buying, but the face is not that big! I mean really, do I *need* 7 different morning cleansers waiting to be opened? No. I have 12+ different serums that will take a long time to get through.  I mean really! Not to mention the mask count. ....

I need to be more 'skincare realistic' and less 'skincare purchase-happy'.  Some serums and cleansersSome serums and cleansers

You know what? When I got seriously into studying skincare some years ago, I did the same thing. Truth is, trial and error is really the only way to figure out what your skin likes/hates. If you go on Reddit, there are lots of helpful spreadsheets people have shared for tracking products and ingredients and how your skin responds. The hard part for me was letting anything go, even when I knew I didn't like a product and had five better versions to use.

RE: Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

Great resolutions @l8totheparty I think you are being totally realistic and you can accomplish what you want to

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

Kudos for the idea, @l8totheparty - love the goal of using up masks that will expire this year! And I commend you for not opening all of those products right away! I’m getting better at it, but my curiosity sometimes gets the best of me.

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

Preach @l8totheparty !

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

Omg I did the same recently I just created some goals for what I’ll realistically get through this year and in some categories I’ve got like 2 years worth, at least of stockpile. I am also going very low buy in 2020. Good luck with your goals! And enjoy your products usage!
