I haven't seen this thread yet, so here it is! Time for 2020 beauty resolutions. Skincare, haircare, makeup, spending, whatever you want! I have a new job and want to look more put together for it. These are my resolutions:
Ooooh, nice! It will feel so good to get through some products. I wish you all the best to get through a large/realistic chunk of your stockpile this year!
I think the most important aspect I need to be mindful of for 2020 and that's my spending habits. The first thing I'm not doing is buying colors that I know won't look good on me because they're unique (hey 10 blue lipsticks, here's looking at you.) because they're just a waste. I also am being mindful with my collection, only buying things that are going to make me happy and get a lot of use. 2019 was the first year that I actually ran through products- namely foundation- and that was so satisfying for me.
I want to develop a good haircare routine and actually take care of my locks. When I switched to vegan haircare it became harder and then using the Redken line, I've been so unhappy with the overall appearance. Plus, my scalp holds most of the tension (and the fact I'm still dealing with excruciating headaches from the concussion) so regular salon visits will help.
Mindful spending is so important! You are not the only one with this goal. @Nickelliebear1
@Nickelliebear1, I'm sorry to hear about your concussion. 🙁 I was just talking to my husband today about how much I enjoy my salon visits to get my hair colored, mainly because I love the scalp massage. I can't understand how so much tension can be in our scalps when there are no muscles? (or maybe there are?) I haven't had a regular message in years because I love playing with my hair, it's colors, and deep conditioners. I think you'll enjoy the satisfaction you'll feel when you feel like your hair makes you feel pretty.
1) Haircare. Since @devacurl came to BIC to share advice, I need to remember when diffusing my hair to use the lowest heat setting because it makes a huge difference in how my hair looks. Otherwise I feel that my routine is working.
2) Skincare. That is another area that I feel is working. Prior to keeping up with my haircare routine I get a Perk Hydra Facial at my local Sephora which has addressed many of my skincare routines.
3) Makeup. I would like to get better at applying eyeshadow and eyeliner. Perhaps after my Perk Hydra Facial, I will mention that to my BA weather permitting.
4) Makeup. Try to use up my massive hoard of makeup and skincare products before trying the latest releases.
5) Spending. I need to stick to a budget. Enough said! Just because an item is on sale I need to remember what I have that is similar or comparable.
Do you de tangle your hair before you style your hair @hjp95? I de tangle my hair prior to washing my thick wavy /swavy hair using DEVACURL - Wash Day Wonder™ Pre-Cleanse Slip Detangler. I manually de tangle my hair using my fingers. There is no need to wash it out prior to shampooing.
Those are some great resolutions, I can def relate to spending less in general!
My resolutions for all things cosmetics related are just purchasing things that I know i'll be using or just restocking on my TTT's.
I don't need more new things like e/s (Natasha Denona Mini Glam, i'm lookin at you!!). I already have a set daily routine so I need to stop tempting myself from wanting so many of these new and trendy items.
My non-cosmetic related purchasing resolutions are avoiding fast-fashion brands or clothing that is not sustainable (synthetic materials).. TL;DR, I want to try to be more eco-concious about the things I use/buy!
@sprocketta, so happy you started this thread. I love reading everyone's resolutions. I was thrilled to read that you found a skincare routine that works well for you and inspired by your "at least X times per week" resolutions. Here what I'm aiming for in the new year (can't believe it's almost here!):
@sprocketta Mine would be to finally use all the makeup and beauty products I bought when on maternity leave and to finally get a hair cut and dye. Also, more “me” time, although it’s hard with a newborn and a toddler.
@SportyGirly125 my post-baby "me" time was attending Sephora classes. If you are close to a Sephora, I recommend taking some if you haven't already..or take them again if you have!
@ShortErica I’m going to be heading back to work so “me” time will be really really limited. Thank for the suggestions about the classes. I think I have tapped out on classes after attending a lot before my son and daughter were born. I took a lot from MAC and Nordstrom’s and even went to community college and got my certifications in bridal, makeup artistry and avant garde.
Oooh the avant-grade artistry sounds so cool, @SportyGirly125.
@eshoe it Definitely was a fun class. I had things I wanted to accomplish when I hit 30 years ago and makeup school, hip hop classes, guitar, cooking classes, re learning a language we’re on the list.
That is fantastic that you did it @SportyGirly125! Re learning a language is a challenge when you aren’t immersed in it, that is a great goal.
That's really cool about the certifications @SportyGirly125. Even with limited time, make sure to get some "me" time. I'm sure it won't be easy but it's worth it to treat yourself. 🙂
Great thread, @sprocketta! I need to stop buying too many backups of things--makeup, skincare, haircare, EVERYTHING--even if I think I'm going to love something forever or if I find a good deal on something. I love trying new things and I feel like sometimes I can't (or shouldn't) purchase something new to test out because I know that I have a whole lineup of items that will accomplish the same function that I've already spent money on. Besides that, things obviously expire or I just get tired of a product/it stops working for me and then I'm stuck with stuff that I no longer want to use.
