2020 Beauty Resolutions

I haven't seen this thread yet, so here it is! Time for 2020 beauty resolutions. Skincare, haircare, makeup, spending, whatever you want! I have a new job and want to look more put together for it. These are my resolutions:

1) Haircare - My sister gave me one of the heated straightening brushes. I want to use this at least once a week.

2) Skincare - Stick to my routine. In the last 6 months I upped my game and put together a great routine that works for me. Some nights I'm super tired and I let it slide. I want to be better about this as my skin looks so much better with the routine.

3) Makeup - Wear base makeup at least once a week. I love the IT Cosmetics CC Cream and the Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer. I just finished my cc cream mini (actually the day of my job interview) and have a full-size waiting for me.

4) Makeup - Wear eyeshadow and mascara at least once a week. I have palettes I never use. It's time to break them out. I don't do anything fancy with my eyes, but I'm always pleased when I do an eye look, however simple.

5) Spending - Keep spending under control. I'm making more money now but those extra $$$ are going towards my credit card debt and then a down payment for a house. I'm going to keep it on a low-buy, but I'm allowing myself another 2 PMG lipsticks. Have to find a store that carries them as I won't buy blind.

Okay BIC folks, what are your 2020 beauty resolutions?

And happy holidays to everyone!

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@CookieGirl1  Meeee too. I have a back up for my back up then I decide something else is my HG and I don’t use them 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@CookieGirl1  I really need to work on this too!

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

1- Take it easier with exercise, I'm causing a lot of trouble with my knees running so far on hard surfaces, run on grass or trails more.

2- Cut my spending waaay back. I'm shocked how much I spent this year even though I tried to low buy.

3- Wear more of my makeup hoard and lust less after every new thing. Kinda tied to #2.

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

Did you have a written out plan for your low buy @prettyinpa? I think writing things out and being specific can help you meet your goals.

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@prettyinpa  I know exactly what you mean about #2 I need to do that too. And not lust about everything I want. But i know I won’t and I always will have an excuse to buy everything!!!

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@prettyinpa  I’m waiting til 2020 to have any work done on my bad knee so I can burn my high insurance deductible. Meanwhile, I also need to take it easier on my knee. On one hand, that knee hurts so much sometimes, I can’t help but ease off it. On the other hand, it’s killing me—figuratively and probably literally—to not exercise as intensely as I used to. I really enjoy my at-home HIIT/Tabata routines and sometimes like my outdoor runs, and now I can’t do them without risking serious knee injury. 😞 I should add “get my bleepin’ knee fixed already” to my 2020 goals.

I hope you don’t have any serious knee issues! Grass and trail runs are a good idea.

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

1. Be better at removing makeup and starting my PM routine when I first come home from work (rather than wait until I fall asleep in the couch and then don't want to do it 🙂 )

2. Really focus on my riding so we can be more competitive in shows/events next year. I've started keeping a journal of our rides with what we worked on, etc - hopefully this helps

3. Use up my skincare drawer! I would like to empty it this year, and only re-purchase my HG's that work best with my skin (a moisturizer, a basic cleanser and makeup remover, retinol products) - everything else I have too much of and needs to go!

This also includes more routine masking - i have 2 drawer-ful's!

4. I know I will spend on the new TF palettes coming out, but unless it is LE I don't plan on buying any more makeup this year

5. Read my stacks of books! I would like to get through 2 stacks before buying more. (About 15 books).

6. Pay off 2 credit cards

7. Continue once a week spin classes every week (except if sick or out of town), maybe increase to 2x/week.

I know not all beauty related, but relevant to my life 😉

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@Zpsid91 I'm with you on the credit card goal. Based on what I've budgeted I should be done with my credit card debt in a year. Then saving for my own house!

I feel stupid for asking, but the riding...horses? What kind of competitions?

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@sprocketta  - you got it! I event with my horse

Do you ride?

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@Zpsid91 I don't ride and know nothing about it. Sorry to disappoint.

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

Lol that's ok @sprocketta

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

My resolutions are:

1. Wear more makeup and fix my hair more often. I need to stop hitting the snooze button to give myself more time.

2. Start exercising regularly again. Since I have a desk job now, I am not as active, so I have to make this a big priority.

3. Start a low-buy. I failed miserably at a no buy but I should be able to commit to a low buy. A lot of my spending this year was learning what products work best for me. Now that I know what to look for I can make better choices.

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@faeriegirl -- Love / hate relationship with the snooze button.

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

That Snooze button is definitely dangerous, @faeriegirl. I use it too often and then I'm horrified when I realize that I have five minutes to get my butt out the door in the morning. *Raises hand and cringes* Guilty.

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@faeriegirl I'm SO guilty of hitting the snooze instead of wearing more makeup!

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

1.  Excersize

2.  Be consistent with my evening skincare when I don't wear makeup

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

Ok so my new goals for 2020 are:

1. wearing more makeup. I was working a job where I was getting dirty and sweating lots and had to wear my hair up all day so I didn’t do much. I start a new job in January where I am an office assistant and I will get to dress up every day so this should be an easy one.

2. Exercise it least 3 days a week. Pretty self explanatory.

3. Step up my hair game. I want to use my hair masks it least once a week.

4. Stick to a self care routine. With my little guy I focus all my spare time on him so I need to set aside some time for myself.

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@ather Great goals. Good luck at your new job!

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@sprocketta  Thank you!! It’s more my speed. I just took my current job because when my husband got posted I was on mat leave and we moved to a very small town so I took what I could until something better came up!!!

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

Goals I can realistically achieve next year:

  1. Remove makeup before my workouts. I exercise mostly at night, and I usually do my skincare routine right before bedtime. I need to start splitting my PM skincare routine: makeup removal, then workout, then wash face and so on. In fact, I should remove makeup as soon as I’m home for the day/night. Even if I exercise in the afternoon, I need to get better at removing makeup first.

  2. No more makeup wipes, except for travel purposes. I’ve been weaning myself off them all year at home, in an effort to further reduce waste, so this goal should be easy. I’ll allow myself small packs of wipes to pack for travel. Otherwise, I won’t use wipes even to remove arm/hand swatches anymore, or to clean my fingers after blending concealer or lipstick.

  3. Use all those eyeshadows! I have lots of single shadows because I love to customize my own palettes. I also now have more palettes than I expected to acquire. I can’t wear eyeshadow daily because my eyes are sensitive jerks sometimes. But I see eyeshadow challenge thread participation in my near future. 😄

  4. Quarterly declutter evaluations. Review beauty products at least once a quarter and decide what to purge. I’ll probably focus this on one or two product categories each quarter: lipstick one quarter, then eyeshadow + brushes, blush + highlighter + setting/finishing powders, and skincare... something along those lines. I might even do this more frequently than just 4 times a year. I definitely need to assess all my eyeshadows. Lipstick will probably be an ongoing evaluation.

  5. Stop missing return windows. I’ve wasted so much money over the years by not returning things before the return deadline. I don’t know why I’m so bad at this with things I quickly learn won’t work for me. (Sometimes I miss return windows because I honestly need more than 30 or even 60 days of testing to know if a product will work for me; this usually applies to skincare.) But I need to get much better at it.

I might add to this list as I think more about the topic. 🙂

Re: 2020 Beauty Resolutions

@WinglessOne I hear you about the return windows!  My friend got me a lovely gift from Sephora (DRYBAR - At First Crush Set) and while it is really luxuriant, I know the straightening brush won't be ideal for my hair, and it's too expensive to just keep.  So now I'm in a mad rush to return it so she can get her money back - it was purchased on 12/9.
