Matte on Aging Lips

Hey y'all I've found matte lippies highlight the age in my lips. Is this a fact of life or am I just coming across the wrong formulations?

@abstraktgirl  I’ve found this to be true for matte but it wasn’t until I found Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez Kind Words Matte Lipstick Wise  that I noticed an improvement I think it has to do with the type of lipstick and other lip care such as chapped lips It may just be a combination of things I hope you find your match 💕

@peculiarzmakeup, essentially mattes are drying because of the finish.  I liked that lip you tagged as well, but if you happened to lose a lot of collagen (which can be a factor as we "become vintage"), then you definitely need to prep differently as the finish on mattes will be more prominent no matter the formula vs chapped lips.

@abstraktgirl, it could be the formula, mild dehydration, the way your skin reacts to something in the product, way your skin behaves in certain weather...

Make sure your lips are prepped.  That can be a layer of balm underneath, or using a lip scrub to exfoliate.  I use lip masks or a lip oil before drying mattes.

Also consider formulas that have hydrators in them.  Or opt for a finish like a satin matte, demi/semi matte or mousse.

Here is my lip routine:

If needed, I exfoliate with Revlon Kiss Exfoliating Lip Balm.

I treat my lips every morning with #GUERLAIN Abeille Royale Advanced Youth Watery Oil 

I have tried with lip primer. When that didn’t work, with chapstick. Now I wear no primer.

Lip masks seem to have only temporary benefits, but I enjoy them anyway 😊

Maybe try exfoliate, lip oil, remove oil and then apply balm with drying mattes.  With a soft formula, you might be able to skip the balm.

I find myself using lip masks as balms if they didn't do the trick overnight, that way my lips stay soft.  And when the heat is really high, swigs of water and reapplication.
